There is NO pirated version. The only versions so far have been 100% FREE, from Microsoft.
Don't worry about things that will not even happen for six months or more down the road.
And we don't know exactly HOW they will happen, even then.
NO-One is, or ever will force you to buy Windows 8. That will be totally up to you.
Personally, Windows XP-Pro-SP3 will be my OS of choice till Hades freezes over.
I see no purpose in wasting good money for an OS that was never meant for my computer in the first place.
For every version of MS OS since DOS, there has always been legal ways to acquire the software.
You just have to look around. Eh?

If you registered your version of Windows, or use other Windows Live services, if Windows 8 follows the trend of Windows 7, there may be emailed specials come mid-summer. If you haven't registered your current copy of Windows, now's the time to do so. If there's any checkboxes to allow promo emails, be sure to make sure that they're checked, along with providing your current email address.
As I remember, Windows 7 Home Premium upgrades were offered for only $49.99 in the summer of 2009, with a limit of 25 copies per customer. Now, there was good reasoning for this low price, and that was due to the lack of Vista's popularity. Business users (& home users with Business licenses) left & right were downgrading to XP Pro, MS had to stop the bleeding. Upgrades to 7 Pro were a little higher.
Were it not for the unpopularity of Vista, XP would be unsupported right now, as it was released a year or so after Windows 2000, which lost all support in the summer of 2010. So today, XP users has to be thankful that Vista was a flop. Probably no other OS produced by any other software maker has been (Windows, Mac, Linux), or will ever be supported for a total of 13 years, as XP will have been come 04/08/2014.
No one knows for sure about pricing, but I'd guess to say that come late summer, we'll know a lot more than we do now. But as with previous versions of Windows, there will probably be upgrade specials offered.
No need to be concerned about pirating, as Windows 8 CP/RC will be supported until January 15, 2013 at 6:59PM, after which Windows will shut down the computer at intervals, then shut it down altogether. That's plenty of time to put some extra cash to the side for it.

The reason XP is still around is the original replacement for it turned out to have major flaws and the release date was looming. Vista was hurried through just to get a new system out to market because they were so far behind schedule. Then business community shunned Vista so they had to extend XP even farther while they Developed Windows 7. I don't see business in any hurry to move to Windows 8 with the radical changes like Metro, hidden login screen missing shutdown button. A lot of computer users just do what they are showed and have no real computer knowledge.

That's very true, Joe. Many computer users just knows how to run the programs for their jobs, send & receive emails. But when it doesn't fire up, many are lost. Just like going to the car & it won't start. They panic.
Most users don't even know how to swap RAM & HDD's. I didn't myself until a few years ago, I started getting my hands dirty a bit, after I became disabled. Because I was that bored, I needed something to do. Plus I was poor (at the time, waiting on my SSDI hearing) & couldn't afford to take the laptop to the shop, I bought used parts off eBay & fixed it myself. I also do a lot of the maintenance work on our car, except the heavy stuff.
Like you, I don't see business users rushing through the doors to get Windows 8. Probably Win 7 SP1 is best for business right now. The economy is going to play a huge part in Windows 8's success (or failure). So many Windows 7 licenses were sold in such a short time, that could make Win 8 a tough sell. Most everyone that I know has a Windows 7 computer, except a couple, and they're diehard XP users. But that's OK with me, as I use XP myself from time to time. But still, look at all of the Windows 7 computers sold, and most of the users are happy.
Also, I do agree with you on Vista. It was rushed through too fast, and really for no good reason. That's what happens when one tries to shove a product to meet the deadline. Although Vista SP2 isn't bad, it ran nearly as good as 7 does on my PC, it already had a bad rap. Kind of like Norton. Once a product (of any kind) gets a bad name, it sticks.
I feel that there will be some changes to the desktop version of Windows 8. Because if not, it's going to a hard sell. Windows 7 install disks (with COA's) will still be sold until 2015, as long as it's popular & in mainstream support. Hell, SP2 hasn't been released yet, Windows 7 is still fairly young.
Windows 8 looks as though it's going to be a mobile market seller, but who knows, things can change at any given time. Hopefully, the desktop will be more friendlier, if not, some will ride Windows 7 until the wheels fall off.

I still love XP but use it less than W7. I used to love 98se and fought XP but in the end XP won.
ME was a loser to XP but that was like the Vista of W7.
I found this awhile back if it is deemed offensive fell free to remove it.

With ME I had a ton of BSOD and a few other issues.
One day I had enough of ME and upgraded back to 98se.
People tell me Vista isn't that bad, but admit they had to wait on service packs and patches to be happy with it.

That comp came straight from Dell with ME on it.
Factory help sucked as they couldn't get it right.
ME may have been good for you, but it wasn't for me and a bunch of other people.
W8 has been fine for me, no crashes.
I just have spent some time setting it up as a decktop.
I have nothing really bad to say about W8.

I agree that W8 will probably be priced at a level that I will just stick with W7.
I like some of the things that W8 offers but atm it is not worth that much to me to pay a lot for the difference.
W8 will be a good move for them in the mobile market. I am glad to have at least have the opportunity to test drive it.

I get a kick out of some of the forums.
Some guys have to have the latest and greatest hardware... must be nice to have money to throw around.
Then if you ask a question about something "inferior" they look down on you as some backwoods hick who is "clueless".
I have never had a top of the line comp and never will, even if I had the money, it will be obsolete in a matter of months.
I'm glad I'm not a gamer or into 3D modeling as my comps are junk for those tasks but work very well for what I do.
I don't care if their comp will convert video in 1/2 the time mine will, it still gets done.
But my new build will make me happy for the $150 I will have in it.
