Thanks for reading my post in advance. Here is the thing. I bought a new laptop, installed windows 8 and activated it with Windows 8 key. Windows 8 works fine. But optical drive does not work a few days later. Fortunately, the laptop manudacture fix it and they changed the motherboard and optical. I reinstall windows 8, but it said that the license has been installed. So I have to do phone activation. My question is will I have to do this phone activations every time when I do a new installment on the same laptop ?

The reason the phone activation is popping up is because your mobo has been change, and when installing an OEM OS it's tied directly to that mobo/cpu. It's not transferable like the retail versions of windows which are very pricey.

To answer your question...NO, once you phone activate and there is a problem later on, you can reinstall with out a problem.

Windows Activation captures a unique ID of your hardware, yours happened to include the optical drive in that ID. So no, not unless you make significant changes will it require product activation each time.
