Default Why upgrade windows8 not successfully?

    Hello all,

I want to upgrade my desktop from windwos8 home basic to windwos8 home premium, so I download a windows8 home premium iso and I install it as the indication step by step. Then, I restart my desktop, but when I entered the open interface it showed the previous vision. After I input the password I found my system is windows8 home basic.

Who can tell me why the upgrading failed? I am waiting for your reply. Thank you very much guys!

There is NO different versions of WIN 8 CP. It is all one version. It is just either 32 Bit or 64 Bit. You probably just screwed up your original OS with a time limited soon to deactivate beta OS. Win 8 CP will deactivate sometime in October when the RTM is released. If you did not create an Image of your original OS before starting you are left with the option of reinstalling your original OS from scratch. or somehow finding a way to download the Win 8 CP iso file again, burn it to DVD and installing this beta OS as your only OS. Then in October starting all over again.

The better alternative would be to reinstall your original OS completely. Set up a second partition for Win 8 CP. Download the iso file. Burn it to DVD then install it to the second partition. This will give you a valid dual boot setup to try the OS and still leave you an original OS if you decide Win 8 CP is not for you at the end of this trial period.

I'm sorry, but I'm scratching my head, wondering where in heck you got Windows8Home Basic and where you expect to get Windows8 Home Premium, since there are NO SUCH versions.

If you found such a thing someplace, it sure as heck did not come from Microsoft.

You could have Windows 8/Developer Preview, which is going dead, or Windows 8/consumer preview, which will go dead on Jan, 1, 2013. There are NO other versions. Not legally, anyway.

    So what do you have?

It's definitely not CP since this thread was started about 10 months ago.

That is true, but in updating the thread to today there is still no different version in the CP. Whenever MS releases a beta of a future OS, they only release one version. It usually is equivalent to what is called Ultimate in Win 7. I am unsure why so many people believe this OS is a released OS and are upgrading their validated OS's to this beta. It truly does not make sense to do so because this beta is a time limited beta and will deactivate shortly after the RTM (last I heard was in Jan 2013)

I just installed it on a spare hdd I had lying around.
After decades of messing with computers you can collect a ton of spare parts, even the antiquated stuff.

When you're TESTING some unknown program, especially an Operating System, it's always been the suggested procedure to use a spare HD. That's been SOP, all the way back to DOS days.
People who do not know how to do this properly, should not be doing it at all.
That may seem harsh, but it's verified by the number of people so far, that have overwritten their OS and really mucked up their PC. And, they didn't even make a backup before they did it. Cheeeech!!!!

Obviously, from a few posts I've read, there are some folks who think Win-8/CP is a new FREE OS that will replace their existing OS. IT IS NOT!

I repeat, Win-8/CP is for TESTING purposes only and is not supposed to become anyone's main OS.
Maybe that should be put in the Header for this forum. Eh?

I have to learn how to set it up and maintain it, or I'd not be messing with it at all.
I also have five OS's here, and each one is installed on its own SEPARATE hard drive.

    Cheers Mates!

No Beta OS should ever be installed, except as, follows:

    1. On a spare machine
    2. Virtually
    3. As a dual-boot.
    4. On a USB.

Never as an Upgrade or replacement to an existing, current, non-beta OS. Never on a production machine.
Nor, BTW, can one move from 1 Beta of an OS to the next or from Beta to RTM, etc... from Build to Build or stage to stage, except by clean installs.

Programs & software must be installed, after a fresh OS install.

    Cheers,
    Drew
