When I run windows update, it just keeps saying that error found got the code 80248015, and says update service not running.

I am running windows 8 release preview. Please let me know if you need more information.

Did you try to reboot to see if the WU service starts?

Type Services in search and scroll down to Windows Update. Double click on WU Service. Should look like this:

If not started, or not set to Automatic, then change it to these settings.

There is a same issue in this thread. The fix seems very difficult. Good luck.

If the fix is that difficult, it might be easier to just do a complete Custom (Clean) re-install.
