If you are using Win 8 CP you most likely have to do a clean install to reactivate.

Of course not! When you legally install windows, any version, it keys itself to the motherboard. If you then change the motherboard, windows will not work. It's always been that way as far back as I care to remember.

The solution for you is simple. Re-Install Win-8, using the legal Registration Key and it will all work just fine.

Win 8 is NOT an official OS,,,,it's a BETA TEST version, or did you miss that?
There is NO Re-Activation procedure, as there would be with a real OS.

I repeat: "Reinstall Win-8 and you'll be fine".
Actually, you should wait a few days for the next BETA TEST version, which will Be Win-8/RP.

If you have any DATA files on that drive, copy them off to a Flash Drive, etc., because you'll need to do a CLEAN install of Win-8/RP, if you intend to continue "TESTING".

    Good Luck!

If you are trying to reinstall your original version of Windows after changing your MB you will most likely have to call MS to help with the activation.

If we are talking about Win 8 then do as TechnoMage has suggested.
