Hi all,
As the title said, I am running windows 8 Consumer Preview, can I upgrade from Windows 8 Consumer Preview to Windows 8 Release Preview? If yes, can I keep my files, settings, or apps when I upgrade from Windows 8 Consumer Preview?
Thanks.

You should do a clear install. Before you install, I suggest reading the threads below to know more. Good luck.
Concerns before installing Win 8 RP when it is released
Things you should know after you upgrade to windows 8 RP
Steps to install Win 8 RP when it is released
Clean Install only. Save your data on a flash drive or another partition, etc.
You will need to install all apps again.
We have posted these warning numerous times on numerous posts. Read the 3 threads in particular posted above.
You will be required to do something because the Win 8 CP beta OS will deactivate shortly. Either reinstall your original OS, or Clean Install Win 8 RP.
NO
To everybody, NO, cannot upgrade CP to RP!
No matter how many times or ways y'all keep asking us this, the answer will always continue to be, NO.
NO upgrade path list:
Non-beta OS to a Beta OS
Beta OS to next version Beta OS
Beta OS to RTM
Beta OS to GA
Cheers,
Drew

You might actually see an Upgrade option during the installation, but going that route (TM tried) resulted in a Clean Install anyway. There is not an Upgrade route!
Yes, TM tried it....and it worked....to a point.
It did NOT do what we generally think of as an Update, where two OS's are blended together and all the programs still run and all the data files are readily available.
When Win-8/RP installed, It crammed everything from Win-8/CP into one folder and named it "Windows.old". You can recover data files from that folder, but that's it.
Most of us, who understand Beta Testing, (and it seems that so few do) have no data files to recover in the first place, so to save space, we just let "Disk Cleanup" delete that folder.
Since W8-CP and W8-RP were not MIXED in the process, Win-8/RP runs just like Win-8/CP was never even there.
I did use Disk Cleanup to delete the Windows.old folder and it's as if Win-8/CP had never been there in the first place.
I did all that because I'm TESTING Win-8, not running it as my only OS. I wanted to see for myself what would happen if I installed Win-8/RP the way that we tell people NOT to. The old OS is essentially LOST, because there is no Go-Back option.
So use the Update/Upgrade option at your own peril! You WILL loose your old OS in the process.

A man with experience is never at the mercy of a man with an argument.
Backup! Backup! Backup! Ghost rocks!
So then this is NOT an upgrade because you can use the data from windows.old to move back into the new OS. But all apps will still have to be installed, hence this is still a Clean Install.
