Default Any advice on removing Snapdo maleware from win 8.1?

    Hi all.
Im completely fresh using win8.1 and have embarrassingly managed to let in Snapdo enter my 2days old HP Envy.
Would be happy for any advice how to get rid of this crap as soon as possible!

    Best regards, Gunnar

First question, what the heck is "SnapDo"?

Second question, have you done a web search on that name?

    Remove Snap.do (Removal Guide)

    Antivirus Support Center

Remove SnapDo browser hijacker (Removal Guide)

All I did was do a search on "SnapDo Removal". You too can do that.

The guys at malwaretips.com are very good at this. They saved me once a few years back.
Follow this guide and make sure to do only the steps that are applicable to your case. Be patient while doing this and do it one step at at time. good luck!

How to remove Search.SnapDo.com (Virus Removal Guide)

    Tank you all for response.
Sorry I did not explain what kind of crap snapdo is. Also I did search and found a few uninstall programs. Just guessed some expert here might have the best or better solution.
Since I have not stored much on my machine, I ended up resetting windows from the hardrive.
3 klicks, and all ready and done when I got home from a wonderfull day at the beach.
Thanx again from a sunny Norway! :-)

Why we don't have much experience with things like Snap.Do, is because......

We run a comprehensive "Package" of anti malware* software to prevent infection in the first place.

Prevention is always better than having to do repairs after being infected.

We don't all use the same programs, but we all do use some kind of protection.

    Cheers mate!

I also always used protection. First Norma Antivirus for many years, until about ayear agowhen I changed to MacFee antivirus.
Not sure why Macfee did not manage to hinder me from getting fooled to let in this malewar.
Wont happen again, that's for sure!

    Totally agree with you TM.
One of the big reasons for coming up with a forum like this is to help people who run into problems.. installation problems, BSOD, infection, etc.
But we should not blame people for their ignorance. Sometimes, lessons are learned the hard way. After solving their problems, we are hoping that they know what to do next time. No just how to fix problems, but more importantly, how to prevent them from happening. I hope that they would take advises like you posted above seriously.

    Cheers!

I actually dated Norma, once, many years ago, but I'd sure not trust her to protect my PC! Eh?

McAfee? Speaking as a working computer tech, for 34 years now, they are a joke.

I know the Grand Poobah won't agree with me, but I keep myself and my hundred or more PC customers SAFE with AVG 2014 FREE, with a little backup from Spybot Search & Destroy, Malware Bytes and Super Anti-Spyware, all FREE.
I even bought "Trojan Hunter" as additional Backup, and it finds things that none of the other programs will find and remove. On one teens PC, Trojan Hunter found and removed 1600 trojans, that slipped right by their AV program.
I think they too had McAfee AV.

I repeat what I've already said a thousand times..... "There is NO ONE program or Suite that will keep you 100% malware free." Don't be a fool and Fool yourself into thinking that ONE will do it.

    Good Luck!

Ok, I can't help but, add to this.

    This SO MUCH applies here...
"A ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"

As IT Techs & Consultants we strive to both help & educate. And more & more we urge Folks to be pro-active.

I can't count how many times I've had a client say, "I don't how that (could have) happen, I had McAfee or Norton". Well, cus they are crap, maybe. The Saser (sic) worm used to blow right by Norton. I never (would) recommend either. Have removed them countless times.

We may have favs when it comes to security programs but, we (in & outside these Tech Forums) all agree on which ones we do not like or recommend including Norton & McAfee.

For myself and my clients, w/ Windows 8.1, just simply go w/ Windows Defender which, is embedded, natively in the OS & on by default; personally, do not see any need to install a 3rd Party security w/ Windows 8. And run Malwarebytes periodically... even though mine never finds anything.

One tip or something that isn't mentioned enough and many people are not aware to watch for it... and that is other undesired things installing (themselves) along w/ something acceptable this was being installed intentionally. Always look to see if anything is 'piggy-backing'. There is usually a check box to check or uncheck to allow OR NOT these things to be installed OR NOT. Again, many customers will say, "I don't know how that is there, I didn't install it". Ahem, yes you did, you just didn't know it @ the time.

    Cheers,
    Drew
