Default How to install mac in vmware without hardrware virtualization?

    Hi all,

windows 7 doesn't support hardware virtualization to install windows 8 & mac in vmware.

i have a computer running windows 7. It doesn't support hardware virtualization. I want to install windows 8 & mac in vmware. But when installing mac in vmware requires hardware virtualization support. How to install mac in vmware without hardrware virtualization? Do windows 8 also requires hardware virtualization support? Thanks.

Windows 7 supports virtulization but not all chipsets have it. It also frequently needs to be enabled in the BIOS. Not all VMware products are for running Mac either. I believe they all require hardware virtualization to run.

Hi Joe, thanks for post. I googled it in these days. Yes, I think you are right and vmware really needs virtualization to run.

VMware were famous for their virtualisation product that didn't need hardware support to virtualise a 386 type CPU.

However, I'm not sure current versions of their product still supports that mode. My guess is it doesn't. I don't know if VMware has to support an OS specifically to run it without hardware virtualisation support.

Generally, Intel and AMD CPUs without hardware virtualisation cannot be virtualised (efficiently). But as far as I know Microsoft Virtual PC does not require hardwar support.

In my Sony laptop I had to flash the Bios with an update to get hardware virtualization. I just did not like the performance hit while sharing my resources between the Host and Client OS's.

I realize that this is an older thread, but Win 7 SP1 provided an update for those w/o hardware virtualization as a option in the BIOS. Still, there is a performance hit, as Ted described, when sharing resources between the host & guest.

Like XP Mode, for instance, hits my desktop with a 1.5GHz CPU & 4GB DDR2 (PC2-6400) RAM hard, which is why I allocate only 768MB RAM for it. My integrated video card required 256MB, so this leaves my system with 3GB RAM to run on. This doesn't count the CPU, which normally hits 85 to 100% while running the app.

On my notebook, which has more robust specs, I can allow XP Mode to use 2GB RAM w/o a dent in performance loss, my CPU still doesn't go over 60% (max) while running the app.

It's my personal recommendation to have a minimum of 8GB (more is better) for best results, & at least a 2.0GHz dual core CPU (higher is better). A hyper-threaded CPU is also better to have when running VM's. My notebook meets all of these specs. Still, with 8GB RAM, I can't go hog crazy with lending resources. 2.5GB is the most that I feel comfortable with.

All of this is why my next desktop will be much better powered, as I love to run VM's. This allows me to keep my favorite older OS's to run, as well as take the latest versions of Linux (mainly Ubuntu/Mint) for a spin. These are becoming more & more user friendly with every new release, some potential Windows 8 users are exploring these as a free option to dual boot Windows 7 with. And they are fast. It's just that games & other popular Windows software doesn't run on it.

And many doesn't see Open/Libre Office as a drop in replacement for MS Office, count me on that list, it isn't one.

As far as Mac OS goes, I have no idea as to the requirements to run virtualized on Windows 7, but I do know that SP1 provided an update for computers that doesn't have hardware virtualization, in order to run VM's. However, this is likely to benefit Windows Virtual PC w/XP Mode users more than other VM solutions.

After all, this is allowing for running VM's at the software level, which doesn't entirely take the place of native hardware virtualization options. VMWare may require the real deal.

    I am using

    -- 32 bit win 7
    -- vm workstation 8
-- intel processor ...with no VT support

I had applied the hard virtulization crack..and it worked

But when I power on the virtual machine..get msg

“This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest operating systems. However, 64-bit operation is not possible.
This host does not support VT.
For more detailed information, see vmware.com/info?id=152.
    Continue without 64-bit support?”

\\\\\\\\\ I hit yes or no any thing it just shuts down \\\\\\.

I tried many diff ways to get it fixed...but nothing seems to working...please help

In my vmware tools...I see a file named darwin.iso
which I didn't use..and I am not sure where to use..may be this file has some this to do with this error..so please guide me..

You can try and get the 32-bit version of the OS. I've seen some 64-bit OSes that you try to VIrtualize from, themselves won't run a 64bit OS in a Virtualized state. So, give a 32bit OS a try.

I've yet to see a 32 bit host run a 64 bit VM, with any VM software.

For best results, & to access all possible RAM, a 64 bit host OS is needed to run VM's on. Also, the hardware requirements for a 64 bit OS running in a VM are the same as with the host, a 64 bit VM won't run on a 32 bit computer.

However, a 32 bit version will, but will not run near as well as 64 bit, due to limited resources available to lend to the VM.
