Default Windows 8 Tips - How to Bypass the Windows 8 Password Screen?

Many users are annoyed by Windows 8 password screen but they dont know how to solve this problem. If you're one of these guys who want to bypass Windows 8 password screen, the below tips will help you a lot.

Now, let's get down to how to bypass the Windows 8 password screen?

Step 1. Boot your PC and enter your password.

Step 2. Press Win-X (by which I mean hold down the Windows key and then tap X).

Step 3. In the pop-up menu that appears, click Command Prompt (Admin).

Step 4. In the command prompt, type control userpasswords2, then press Enter. (If this sounds familiar, it's because the same command works in earlier versions of Windows.)

Step 5. In the User Accounts dialog that appears, uncheck the box marked Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer.

Step 6. Click OK, then confirm the automatic sign-in option by entering your password (twice).

    Step 7. Reboot.

That' it! Really very easy, hah? If you are interested in it and want to bypass the Windows 8 password screen, just following the above steps and accomplish it easily.

Here's my question: Rather than completely disable the password screen, I want to be able to avoid it when I close and reopen my Surface Pro within a short period of time (for example, when I carry it from room to room). I can do this on the iPad and iPhone. Thanks for your help.

    Sheana,

1st I would check the Power Options settings. There the timing can be adjust for display, sleep, et al.
It may be going to sleep (quickly). In the Power Options window is a place to tell it to NOT need a P/W upon 'wake up'.

And here is some general info on what is being discussed in this thread for people whilst I have the opportunity:

Although (some) people find needing a P/W a nuisance, there are good reasons for it. Going w/out it IS NOT recommended. Easily possible but, not recommended. Eliminating it removes a critical layer of security... not only hands-on but, also, from outside the machine... hackers love machines w/ no guard at the door.

If, you don't like typing in a P/W each time, you might find using a "Picture Password" more appealing; I know I sure do!

    Cheers,
    Drew

    Hi Drew -
Thanks very much for the information. When I close the cover to walk with my Surface Pro, I close the cover. This puts it to sleep. What I really want is a setting (like my iPhone) which enables me to open the cover within 1 or 2 minutes without having to enter the password again. Any ideas?

Set it so it waits longer before it goes to sleep.

@ the Start button (Bottom-left Corner) Rt Clk > Power Options

In addition to setting the time interval, tell it to "not need P/W upon wake-up"

    Cheers,
    Drew

If I am understanding your query correctly, you may need, in the first instance, to eliminate the need to log on with a password. If you haven't done that already, then you will probably find the Power option to NOt enter a password on waking, is greyed out.

There are several ways you can accomplish this. The first post describes the recommended method.

This does leave your computer a little more exposed to attack or examination, particularly on a lan.
