No offense to my respected friend, David but...

Yes, upon going to Power Options > "Require a password on wakeup" you will find things greyed out. However, you will, also, see "Change settings that are currently available"... when you click on that things will no longer be greyed out & you can, indeed, (now) select the "Don't require... option.

Eliminating a P/W to enter the computer is not recommended for security reasons.

I do suggest that since cold starts & reboots are rare events, @ best, one might just accept & live w/ the moment it takes, on those rare occasions, to enter w/ a P/W.

    Cheers,
    Drew

believe me. In all this time, I have never even noticed that line of text!!! thanks. Too late for me to experiment now, but, from curiosity, does it actually do the trick in Sheana's problem, without first eliminating the need for the password?

Perhaps the poster will shortly know the answer?

Well, there you go, now you know You're welcome.

I'm not sure, David. It only means no P/W is required when waking up from Sleep. It does not eliminate the need for a P/W when cold starting or rebooting.

As you say, maybe Sheana will let us know anon.

    Hi Everyone -
Thanks VERY much for the suggestions. I've decided to use the following: Keep P/W for cold starting for the security reasons that you all mentioned. However, when I just want to close the cover to walk between rooms, I have set the Surface to stay awake when I close the cover. This eliminates the need to enter the P/W when I reach my destination. For longer periods of inactivity, I simply power off. Since the cold restart is so fast, this isn't a problem.

    Thanks again for the posts.
    Sheana

RIGHT ON, Sheana!! That's the way, sounds great. Cool you found that setting, about closing cover. May have worded it poorly but, that's what I was trying to talk to when I mentioned about setting timing on when it sleeps.... your was sleeping when the lid closed... great you found setting for that.

Mmmm, I can image the darn thing is fast and @ a lot more than just the cold start time. All I've read about the S Pro, it sounds like it would be very nice unit.

    Cheers,
    Drew

Thanks a lot, nice tutorial, I have the same problem as you but I solved it with different ways. I reset Windows 8 password to blank with a program, You can find this program by searching Windows Password Recovery Tool. It never requests password.
