I have been running Win 8 CP since its released. The biggest problem I have is that Windows Defender can't update virus and spyware definintions. Starts process of downloading, then installing updates, but terminates and shows me an error message: Windows Defender couldn't complete the virus and spyware definitions update due to internet or network connectivity problem". In fact, its connecting to internet. I can browse websites.

It sounds as though the WU engine might be corrupt. Have you received any other Windows Updates? Look at the WU history in the WU window. Did this just start. If so a System Restore might solve the problem.

In a couple of weeks the next beta will be released. Win 8 RP will require a clean install. This should hopefully fix your problem. It is pretty important to have virus signatures update. I would probably go back to my main OS in the mean time to prevent any chance of an infection.

What firewalls are you running? Sorry, I have a fixation on this particular one - Norton?

Thanks for all answers. I have tried the method by going to Control Panel, Recovery, Advanced Tools, System Restore, but still cant work. It does not matter. I will wait for RP. Only one week.
