    Default Problems Installing new software

I believe I may have some type of virus on my W8 pc.

Whenever I try to install a new program, I get to where it asks my permission if it is OK to install the program/software and I always hit yes, but that is as far as I am able to go. I either get a message saying the user has cancelled the installation, the installation has failed or when trying to install a new antivirus program I got this message: ShellExecuteEx failed code - 1073741819.

As far as Antivirus programs, last year I bought and installed Trend Micro Titanium Antivirus+ Security. About a month or two ago when it was time to update the subscription for another year I started getting error messages when trying to download the software. I have not been using my pc nearly as much as I used to so I sort of forgot about it.

But now I am not able to install any type of software.

    Any advice is helpful.

I have had my pc for about 3 years now. It was originally W7, but I was offered the upgrade to W8 for like $40-50 when it first came out and I have been W8 since then.

First, try disabling Trend Micro AV and see if you install the software you were referring to?

If Trend Micro is outdated and no longer working, it could be the cause of your issue. You could also try to uninstall Trend Micro and just use windows built in AV, which is what most of us use.

Run Malwarbytes, superantispyware and spybot S&D (I prefer the older version 1.62) for any malware/spyware on your system.

    I tried that.

It says "An Error has occurred while trying to uninstall Trend Micro....." Basically the same thing it says when I try to install something.

I accidently installed ilivid Download Manager a month or so ago and can't even find it in my list of programs in my Control Center to try and uninstall it. I am not saying that this is the cause of the issues, but it seems that everything got worse when I installed that. I accidently clicked yes to install that when I was trying to install something I wanted on my pc.

Get into safe mode with networking....windows 8 safe mode...then try to uninstall all said software.

The other option is to do a system restore to a date before any of your issues started. How to refresh, reset, or restore your PC - Microsoft Windows Help

Thanks, I found my way into safe mode another way, but I am still unable to uninstall Trend Micro.

I am afraid to restore my PC because I can't find the email with my windows key. I was on the MS site and got help via chat. I planned to just order a backup cd/file but she said I would need my windows 8 key. I looked through my orders on microsoftstore and through my emails (as she suggested) but still no luck. Anyone else know of a way to retrieve my W8 key? I bought the upgrade from W7 to W8 soon after it came out because it was a special of around $40 or so to upgrade.

You don't need a Key to do a System Restore. It just re-writes the registry to a prior date.

A problem with Win-8 is that it doesn't store as many restore points as XP did.

You may or may not need a Key to to an OS restore, back to like-new condition.

You do know, of course, that you can shut off that UAC, that keeps asking you if you really want to do something.
That's usually one of the first things I do after a Windows 7 or 8 install.

I could fix your problem, if you're close enough to bring your PC to me.

But since you didn't put your location in your Control Panel, I don't even know what country you're in.
Please, finish filling out your info in your Control Panel.

    Cheers Mate!

    Thanks again for the help.

I live in the Chicago suburbs, the chances that I am close to you are very slim, lol.

I guess I will just try to restore to like 3 months ago or so and keep my fingers crossed!
