    UrBaBE, welcome to the Forum!

Do you have the Kaspersky AV or IS suite installed, or are you using their Online Scanner? If it's their Online Scanner, any issues won't be automatically fixed, but there will be an offering for a product that will. Also, keep in mind that not all AV/IS suites are yet to be fully compatible with 8 RP.

If you're running Kaspersky AV/IS suite, make sure that Windows Defender is turned off. If in doubt, open the WD app, & make sure in the settings that "Use this Program" is unchecked, then OK.

Should you need to run an online scanner that will clean all found threats with no obligation to purchase, try the ESET Online Scanner. It has the very same potent scanning engine that NOD32 & ESET Smart Security does. Get it here, & run from IE for best results.

ESET :: Get a FREE Online Virus Scan

Make sure that "scan for potentially unwanted software/programs" is checked, as well as "Automatically remove Threats". There is a quarantine folder that these are stored in, if a trusted file is removed, you can get it back. As long as you don't remove the scanner after completion. Which you shouldn't, the next time it's ran, the updating process won't take as long.

Don't expect a quick answer on this. Win 8 RP is still in beta and subsequently they will most likely hold off on problems with this OS.

I have found the included AV/AM that comes with Win 8 RP, Windows Defender, works very well. If it were me I would uninstall Kaspersky. When you do WD should automatically be re-enabled.

While some 3rd party security solutions does work fully on Win 8 RP, there's also many that doesn't yet. My normal choice, ESET Smart Security, the HIPS driver doesn't install on RP, though it did on CP, due to this important feature not working, I didn't re-install it after a clean install of RP recently.

As well as Beta testing Windows 8, I also do some beta testing for some security companies. ESET, F-Secure & AVG. Right now, I'm running AVG 2013 IS beta on 8 RP, & to my surprise, everything works, it uses little resources, and the biggest surprise of all, no BSOD's. This was an issue with Windows 7 for at least 2 years after release, don't know if it still is.

I won't be buying the app, but it's good to know that security companies are working hard to make their products Windows 8 compatible now, instead of waiting until the last minute. Hopefully, ESET & Kaspersky will be compatible soon.

The really good thing about the upcoming ESET NOD32 & Smart Security, beginning with version 6, which is a RC at the moment, will provide Anti-Theft protection. It creates a non-passworded account on the login screen, one the thief (or unauthorized user) logs on, the computer will operate as normal, secretly taking pictures with the webcam & tracking all activity. And tracking the location of the person as well. At some point, the thief will make a critical mistake, revealing their identity, which will in turn, help law enforcement to retrieve the computer, as well as prosecuting the thief.

Speaking of which, those in the security industry are working to make computer theft a Federal crime, hopefully that will carry a mandatory 10 year sentence. Many portable computers are stolen each day, if the crime carries a long term mandatory penalty, this will slow down this serious issue.

I've been sharing the FREE versions of AVG with my own PC customers for years and we all stay SAFE.

The AVG 2013 FREE (Beta test version) is working GREAT on Windows 8/RP/64.
Be sure to get the correct version for your PC. There is a separate 32 and 64 bit version of the software.

Even the FREE version of AVG does a better job than a lot of other paid AV software. (like, Norton)

    Cheers Mates! Stay SAFE!

Since I last posted (2 above) in regards to AVG 2013 Beta, it has been the best 3rd party AV that I've used so far. Very low on system resources, scheduled scans runs in the background (after an automatic update), & the scan non-intrusive, meaning that one can use the computer while scanning.

This is a 180 degree about face for AVG IS, as I got the 2012 version free with a wireless router. It was heavy on Windows 7 x64, really bogged it down, so I removed it & trashed it.

AVG 2013 looks promising for Windows 8 users, I'll be using it (as a beta tester) until mid-October. Still use MBAM Pro along with it, but not SuperAntiSpyware, as AVG IS 2013 also has the option to scan for tracking/ad cookies. Anyone wanting to beta test, apply here:

Well, I have visited this page, joined, and now would like to find the download link. Unfortunately it does not seem available to download, at least I cannot find it.

WELL, I FOUND IT! If this old timer can find it, I'm sure you can too. Google for it!
I got both the 32 bit and the 64 bit versions. I'm running it now on Win-8/RP/64.
It's sure different though. It takes some getting used to, for us Old Time AVG users.

For some time now, AVG has been able to eliminate some spyware, trojans and rootkits.
It also has a great "Link Scanner" so it checks every internet site you go to.
Other options are Child Protection and Identity Protection.

PS: While we're in TESTING mode, may I suggest that if one program doesn't work for you (anyone) try a different program. Eh?
When I first started testing Windows 8, earlier this year, AVG would not install. They quickly fixed that problem and now it works great.

Well my friend, your old eyes must be better than my old eyes. The Downloads site for the beta is inactive on the AVG site. A Google search for AVG 2013 download only finds a torrent site that has a poor rating by WOT.

Why AVG does not make this easy to find is the biggest problem.

Notice the Downloads link is not a link. It is not active for some reason.
