Does it have email protection? This was my one thing that prevented my adoption to try this AV. The comparison chart does not show email protection.

I suspect that was either an oversight, or a subtle nudge to get people to BUY the full suite.

The development of an AV program costs millions of $'s and giving away millions of copies, is a loss leader, so they do make an attempt to get people to buy the full Internet Security Suite. I haven't yet, but I will.
I did buy the "AVG Tune Up" program. It's a great program for keeping your PC clean, and optimizing the Internet's 77 parameters. I've used that program very effectively, to optimize my own PC.

I agree with TM, that was probably a sales pitch. It's been on here for 5 or 6 hours now, hasn't gotten in my way at all.

It was after the first scan that I noticed where the configuration panel was, most of which I left as default. Though I did check to scan for tracking cookies. The Mail protection, I left as is, since I get my email through the browser. Unless the mail is coming from a contact, I usually trash it anyway. I learned that lesson a long time ago, the hard way.

What is the real difference between the Free AVG AV & the paid one (AV only)? I ask because oftentimes I see a 1 User/1 Year for $9.99 at Newegg, sometimes a 3 user pack for $19.99. Anything extra added, like say, tune up utilities, privacy sweeper, or a shielded browser (protection from hard to detect keyloggers) for shopping/banking, like Avast Pro has? I do recall that during my beta participation, I had a 24 hour pass for the tune up utility.

I really don't care about the Firewall component, because Windows Firewall has always done the job (going back to XP), & so far, Windows 8 is peculiar about 3rd party ones. Or so my experience has been that way.

Seems that there would have to be something extra, otherwise no one would pay. Just curious. This is Newegg's description of it, but at this time, no promos.
