Did you try a Google search?

I did and came up with this:
    Windows 8 Start Menu

I assume this is the same app, but I'm not sure since this thread states it will be available shortly.

Our VIP partner will release a new StartMenu8 beta later this week, it is quite smart.

I am using at this moment, no AD, easy to setup and use. A sweet app

I'll have to check this one out. Currently, I'm running 8 RP "as is", except for security. This was the way I ran CP, after a few days & a couple of tutorials, I got the hang of it.

Classic Shell is also good, but the constant updating drove me away. I can see every few months, but sometimes, a couple of days? However, so far, it's the best alternative that I've tried to date. Start Menu 7, I did try, but there was Free & Pro versions, making me feel that I was missing out on a feature.

I've bookmarked the Start Menu 8 page (already have downloaded the app). AVG 2013 Free scans it as clean. Will try it on Windows XP first. Is this the same app that TM linked above? It looks a lot different from that in threeone's thread.

There has only been one update for Classic Shell that fixed a bug since the Win 8 Specific app was released.

Since StartMenu8 will be a beta release, I assume there will also be more releases until a released version is released. (boy that's a lot of releases! LOL)

I will consider trying this, but it will have to provide a compelling reason to drop Classic Shell (a much older app) in favor of this. To me it sounds like just another of several apps designed to add the Start Orb back into the Desktop. We'll see.

That may have been the quick one, the one that was released a few days after the previous release.

A lot of Windows 8 apps tends to be this way, no doubt StartMenu 8 will be the same. I'm just trying these type of apps out, to determine whether or not to suggest to others that may need them. Like I previously stated, so far Classic Shell has been the best one of the lot that I've used. Works well on Windows 7 & Vista also.

As for myself, I'm pretty much, with some extras provided in the Customization Forum, running the OS as is. The main exception being security, running AVG 2013 Free with MBAM Pro.

I have a gut feeling that many of the OEM's will offer some Start Orb alternative to boost sales of their computers.

Why would you ask for any of that stuff?? There is no need for it. Easier & best to discover & learn Windows8 'as is' w/out confusing things & increasing the workload w/ unneeded add-ins or retro-fits. Windows8 works well, nicely & enjoyably w/out making it into something it's not.

8 has excellent security built in & it has a Start icon that goes to a screen that is completely optional whether one bothers to use it or not. It, certainly, needs no old start button added to it.

Does everything needed quickly & well right out of the box.

KISS principle is a great concept!

Drew, we know you do not like these add-ons. Many people do like and want them. I do not use it for my oft used apps or for my links. I do use it for Favorites, CP and WU. I know I can set up to not do this, but setting up Toolbars are customizations as well. You have a Desktop Toolbar, I believe an app Toolbar. These are customizations as well. No a separate app is not necessary for Win 8. Some of us just like what we gain from it.

Please let us use Win 8 the way we want and we will do the same for you. Thank-you

All I'm trying to get across, Ted, is people are being lead to believe they like & want them cus they are needed...they aren't. The Desktop Toolbar is not a 'customization'. Rt Clk the Taskbar > Toolbars, it's one of the, already, standard equipment items available, by default & not new to Windows8. And it includes Favorites and CP... not to mention CP is, already, on the Rt Clk Users Menu @ the Bottom-Left Corner or in Charms Bar. WU... there's, already, @ least, 3 fast, easy ways to get that... Start, type Update, Charms > Change PC Settings (shows @ bottom of the list), WinE & type Update.

& yes, I admit I added 1 (ONE) thing in that Applications folder on the Taskbar BUT, WinQ gets the same stuff & again, w/out leaving Desktop.

People can think they like & want something... all I'm trying to convey is the NEED is not there & the OS does beautifully w/out such add-ins or the added work, effort, thought, concern or complexity.

And don't be like that... I didn't ever say or suggest not "letting" people do whatever in the disrespectful sense you imply, just that such things are not necessary & in that light the statement is valid & true.

I didn't even hint that people can't do whatever, only that they should not be lead to believe they had to. Nor did I ever suggest they should not but, only that is wasn't/isn't obligatory.

And you can be nice enough to let me have my feelings & be allowed to express them, graciously, too. Allow freedom of speech, thought & opinion!

Liking something or not doesn't come into it... Just trying to make sure people are aware & understand that such things like Start8 & Classic Shell are not requirements, not 'must haves'... the OS does work ever so nicely, even w/out such things added. That's all. Just clarifying the difference between desire & need. If people desire something but, should not be thinking the OS can't be a nice experience w/out such things, too.

    Cheers,
    Drew
