    Cool AVG 2014 FREE Upgrade

It's that time of year again, when AVG (the anti-virus program) is due for a major update from ver 2013 to 2014.

If you're using AVG 2013 FREE, you will probably get a note from AVG that it's time for an update.
That's OK, accept the update, but here are a few tips.

Say OK to the update, but..... When the window pops up showing you two different versions that are available,
the first one being the FREE version and the second one being the Paid Version, click on the first one, the FREE one.
If you OK the 30 day trial of the paid version, you'll only have 30 days to either pay for it, or it will stop working.

Then there will be another window, that opens up, offering you three more options. They will be pre-checked .....
UN-CHECK ALL THREE of them, before you go on. I think that's all of the potholes in the process. When it finishes
it will probably ask you to restart your computer. If so, Go ahead and do that.

On a reboot, AVG will search for and receive the very latest update to its Virus Database file and you'll be good to go, for another year.

To set the scheduler, for daily scans and automatic updates:
Double click the AVG icon in the system tray (on your desktop) then in the upper right hand corner of the AVG window, click on Options. Then Click Advanced Settings, and then Schedules.
Under Schedules you can open and set the Scheduler for daily scans, (disabled, by default) and then for program and data updates.

I like to set the Scheduler for updates early in the day (every day) and a scan (also every day) sometime later. It just seems to make sense to get the updates BEFORE doing a scan. Eh?

    Good Luck and Happy Computing!

Default Re: AVG 2014 FREE Upgrade

I've received many calls from customers, stating that they were getting a message that their Trial would be over in a few days and AVG would stop working, unless they BUY the program. What?

They either didn't get my email about how to safely get the update, or they did it wrong anyway.
So I go out and UN-Install the Retail version and install the FREE version. It's a total pain in the butt to have to clean up after those who don't read or don't listen, but hey...... it puts a few $'s in my pocket.
And, it does give me the opportunity to bring the whole computer up to date.

One point to remember, for those who want to install AVG 2014 FREE, , , , there are TWO versions.... the 32 bit version and the 64 bit version. If you're running a 64 bit OS, you will need to install the 64 bit version of AVG.
I know that should be obvious, but I thought I'd mention it for those who were unaware of the two versions.

"File Hippo", the download people, have both versions available for download.
Their downloads are always Clean and FREE of any additional baggage.

    Cheers Mates!
