I have used windows 8 consumer preview since it came out and has not upgraded to windows 8 release preview. I just noticed a strange thing. Windows will freeze every time I put the mouse on any of the 4 corners of the screen. After a few seconds it unfroze and I could start using it again.

I have an ATI 5870, which DOESNT work out of the box. All I saw was the mouse pointer, everything else was black.

Had to use the MB display port in order to setup windows.

Anyways, I installed the ATI drivers for Windows 8. My card started working again but the corners still froze the OS.

I updated Windows and this issue was gone.

Restarted.

Video card stopped working again, same issue with the black screen. I went back to the MB display port and the corners are freezing again.

Anyone else have these issues? No idea how to get my card working again since I've updated to the latest drivers.

Win 8 RP fixes many of the problems with Win 8 CP. Is there a good reason you have not changed to the later release? This problem might very well be fixed in Win 8 RP.

Your graphics drivers are not working properly with Win 8 CP

To install Win 8 RP use this method.

These are ALL beta OS's. We started with Win 8 DP, then went to Win 8 CP and now are at Win 8 RP. You should only be using these beta OS's for TESTING purposes. As such, moving to a newer version is the sensible thing to do. Why test the old OS when a much better OS is easily available.

I googled this problem and noticed many users have same issue, but did not find a fix. Sorry. Did you check your hardwares, graphics card or cpu/ ram? If all is well, just install windows 8 RP. As Ted said, windows 8 RP has improvement.

Anyway, thank you for help. Yes. I did a clean install of windows 8 RP. Thats better than earlier version.

Glad to hear that, Dimaze! RP is by far, a better version of pre-release Windows 8. Much of what didn't work on CP does on RP. Some users may still have a few issues, but this one is more complete & getting better by the week.

Drivers are also being added as soon as practical after testing, not waiting until Update Tuesday to update these.

Glad my suggestion of installing Win 8 RP fixed your problem. We are getting many questions from people still using Win 8 CP because they are afraid to Clean Install Win 8 RP as they will have to reinstall all apps. That's part of beta testing. To get the cleanest test bed, you have to start from scratch every time.
