Default Task Manager does not save the settings

    Hi all,

When I restart Windows 8 RP, sometimes Task Manager does not save the settings I select for it. Sometimes it does. I haven't been able to discern a pattern for it, but either way, saving config is a trivially simple task for any Windows program. Does your windows 8 like this?

    Hi Mackenzie,

    Welcome to Windows 8 Forums.

TaskManager in Win8 stores its configuration unter HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Tas kManager .

But, when started it actually DELETES current configuration and stores it when application is quit.

So, if TaskManager is quit forcefully (for example, during shutdown) or if Windows crash, the configuration will be lost.

That's very good information. But, what's the point of task manager deleting it's configuration every time it launches? I don't see the logic in that and when I'm messing around with overclocking and it BSODs the custom column configurations are lost.
I guess I'll just reconfigure task manager, exit so it saves. Then, go into the registry and export that portion of the windows registry so if it ever crashes I just import the settings back in.

This problem applies not only to Windows8 RP but also Windows8 Final and still occurs with the latest Windows Updates. So this thread is still valid. I just exported the registry portion for the Task manager onto a file on the desktop so if Task Manager doesn't exit properly, settings can be restored easily. If anybody knows the logic of why they designed it this way, or if they ever modify this behavior, please post!

This is an old topic, about a version of windows that no longer exists.
Windows 7 is good, but have you even tried Windows 8.1?
