The laptop won't go to sleep when I shut the lid
Hi guys,
Please help me.
I have a HP G60-630US laptop with windows 8 release preview. Recently, I got a problem. The laptop won't go to sleep when I shut the lid, but it locks up and won't wake up. I have to hard boot the machine to get it back.
How can I fix this? Please let me know if you have any fix.
Thanks.

Re: The laptop won't go to sleep when I shut the lid
But what if you slightly press Power button, see if it wake up.
I just used PC for Windows 8, no laptop for Windows 8.
I once used three laptops, none of them met the problem as you did. Sorry.

This could be a corruption problem, but with Win 8 release so close (Oct. 26th), you will be able to buy Win 8 Pro shortly.

Here is one fix. Hope that works.
Start > Control Panel.
Change the Control Panel view to Large icons.
Click the Power Options icon.
click the Change advanced power settings
Next to When I close the lid : choose Sleep for both On battery and Plugged in.
than save changes.

Re: The laptop won't go to sleep when I shut the lid
Many of these options has to be configured, as threeone suggests. It's been this way for a long time, at least as far back as Windows 2000. More recently, I had to configure the external monitor to turn off, or sleep, when the notebook's lid is closed, on my wife's XP Pro based ThinkPad. The settings were easily found in the Control Panel under Display.
These things has to be setup to suit the user's needs. Never assume that it's going to automatically do this, though many does, out of the box. But at this time, anyone running Windows 8 isn't running it as a brand new, OEM installed computer.
And if these things doesn't work, as Medico stated above, it could indeed be a corruption issue. At any rate, you'll need to get this right before purchasing Windows 8 or 8 Pro. The Windows 8 Enterprise edition is the closest to the real version as it gets, & though it's appearance isn't that of RP, it makes up for it in performance. Get a 90 day trial of it, here.
Download Windows 8 Enterprise Evaluation
All that's needed is a Hotmail or Outlook Mail address to access the download. Burn it slow for best results, or better yet, use the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool for optimal results. This takes bad burns, coaster or scratched disks out of the picture, & the install goes faster. All that's needed is a 4GB Flash drive, often obtained for $5.00 or less at Office stores. Avoid Wal Mart, dollar or chain drug stores for this, they hike the prices up.
Here's the download, install the tool, it's fairly self explaining for anyone to use. The download link will be in bold orange or red on the page, under Installation. I highly recommend this type of install over a DVD type one.
