Thumbs down Help with USB Problem!

    Hello all,

I have Windows 8 Customer Preview. There will be a problem in task manager If I use USB devices. After I remove usb flash or other usb device, CPU usage by System process is 33%. That seems abnormal. This problem persists after Shut Down and Power on of my computer. I tried to restart computer, no problem comes. But after using any usb device this problem reappears.

If this is a recent install, you might want to try the refresh or reset option. If these do not fix the problem then a reinstall might be in order, but I would download the iso file once again and burn to DVD and do a Custom (Clean) install from this new DVD. This will give the most pristine installation.

You might also go to Task scheduler and on the start up tab you can disable programs and devices at start up..this might correct some of your usage.

I also like a small app called What's In Startup for this small chore. If the problem truly is apps starting with Windows this little gem is great. In this case it sounded like it could be something else related to USB devices.

I attempted to edit the OP's post for more clarity, but I must admit, I don't really understand it myself..... not completely anyway. It sounds like using any USB device causes excessive CPU usage, even when the device is unplugged. Am I close?

I'll go along with a RE-Install of the OS from a new and Known GOOD source file.

That has fixed several weird problems on my own PC, running Win-8/CP.

    Good Luck!
