Default Do you have any idea how to reduce the CPU use in Windows 8?

    Hi,

I am using windows 8 release preview.

I noticed that the CPU use is very high even when I don't open many programs. So the computer always stops responding.

Do you have any idea how to reduce the CPU use in windows 8?

    Thanks.

I suspect your installation is corrupt. CPU usage is generally lower in Win 8 RP. I would suggest a re-installation. If so, I would also download the ISO file again, burn a new DVD and start over.

You could try using an app such as What's In Startup to see what apps are starting with Win 8 RP. (The download link is near the bottom of the page.)

    You may check:
1)if your system requirements meet windows 8
    2) which process is using high CPU in task manager.
    3) if your PC has a virus.

Cool Re: Do you have any idea how to reduce the CPU use in windows 8?

As I read similar threads to this one, on the topic of "High CPU Usage", one thing that I notice is that the background Services are never mentioned. On Win-7, for instance, there are nearly 40 services that can usually be either shut down (Disabled) completely or at least put into "Manual" mode. This takes a huge load off of the cpu and ram. I put those into a batch file for quick application (on Win-7) and I use the same batch file on Windows 8 and it seems to work just fine, although I'm sure it could be improved on. Because, with every new OS, the list of Background Services gets longer and longer.

Then, when was the last time that you told Windows how many cores your CPU chip has? Eh?
If you don't tell it that you have 4, 6, 8, etc., it will use only one core, by default.
All the SAFE Defaults built into Windows by MS, just KILL performance. It takes a considerable amount of tweaking and tuning to get past all the SAFE Defaults and get any MS OS to run even close to the capability of the modern motherboards and CPU's.

I speak about this, because getting the most performance out of any OS, on any PC, is what I've done for a living for the past 30 years. It's not only been my profession, but it's also my passion.

    Cheers mates!
