Default computer won't wake up from sleep

    Hi all,

windows 8 doesn't always wake up from sleep mode - it doesn't matter whether I move the mouse, or press a button on the keyboard. The screed is black. After waiting about half an hour, still same black. So I have to unplug the computer and power it back up. I know that is the proper way to do it, but I have no other ways.

Does anyone know a fix for this problem? Thanks!

Don't unplug anything. You may need to hit the power button on the monitor but, make sure the monitor is & then just simply hit the power button on the tower... the OS will wake up.

    Cheers,
    Drew

It is a Windows 8 problem. It occurs on quite a number of computers. I understand Microsoft are still trying to pin it down to either bios (unlikely) or a particular chip on some motherboards. Out of two domestic laptops and two stationaries, I get the problem on one of the laptops, which is very new, and one of the (very old!) stationaries.

I don't have a problem with waking from Sleep on my desktop, the slightest jar of the mouse wakes Windows 8 CP/Windows 7 instantly.

Strange, but it didn't work out quite as well on my MSI notebook. Although Windows 7 woke from sleep fine, Windows 8 CP didn't. But that install doesn't matter, as I'm leaving Windows 7 on it. I don't want to lose my OEM functions. Windows 8 CP has already been deleted from it.

I believe that this & a lot of other issues will be fixed by the time that Windows 8 RP is released in June.

But there's going to be some computers that even Windows 8 RP or Final Retail won't run on, or run properly. Having chipset drivers for the installed OS is essential for proper operation, including Sleep. From the number of threads & posts that I've read on this forum in regards to this, there are those who thinks that Windows 8 will run on any computer one can find stored in the corner of a closet after years of stowed away (old XP/2000 computers), or worse, one found in the trash.

It's not going to work that way, the minimum specs have been posted by myself, Ted, Drew & others, there's no need for me to post them again. If the computer is older than those which shipped with Vista, at the very least, a GPU upgrade will probably be needed. Hardcore gamers may already have such a video card installed.

But if it's 10+ years old, forget it, it's not going to happen.

LawaBoy, looks like you & Windows 8 are going to be a perfect fit. The same with me & my desktop, so far, Windows 8 CP has offered outstanding performance on lower grade hardware. I'm looking for no less with Windows 8 RP & final retail.
