Need help with DIY computer
I'm looking to purchase a new computer piece by piece. I have around a grand to spend on it all. I wanted to know how much bang I can get for my buck. I am a gamer and would like to up grade to a good desktop.
Thanks!

I do not think you should be looking at Win 8 CP for this rig. Win 8 CP is a beta OS and has problems with some graphics and some games.

On top of what Ted said it has an expiration date build in.

As you do not mention Windows 8 (although that would naturally follow?) I guess you are interested in reccomendations for the latest hardware. There are many pages on the web which chat about self building. Here is on good one (up to date!) which might satisfy your needs.
You Can Build Your Own Computer

Re: Need help with DIY computer
whiteman, welcome to the forum! While Windows 8 looks promising down the road, for the time being, it may be best to stick with Windows 7. Newegg often runs deals on these OS's, as well as the other PC components you want. Here's a good deal.
Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - Operating Systems
If you're looking at building a PC to run Windows 8 on, you need to be looking for the best of components that will suit the OS. I'm not trying to discourage you, but a touchscreen will be needed for some of Windows 8 functions. Look at a sample of them, and pricing.
Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, touchscreen
Not that it's 100% necessary to have a touch screen to run Windows 8, but it will help to give you all that Windows 8 has to offer. Unfortunately, with my AIO PC, I don't have that option, and won't for another 3+ years. I'm sticking with this one through Windows 8.
I wish you the best down the road, & hope that you'll become a Windows 8 user, after the retail version is released.

Aren't they implementing the "Gaze" software into windows 8? Heared about that somewhere... so a touchscreen isn't the way to go really. Your eyes is the new power ^^

Re: Need help with DIY computer
I checked that Gaze software out, it looks promising. Hopefully something will be there for Windows 8 PC users. Using huge screens as touch screens would not work out well, IMO.
For starters, who wants to fingerprint up their huge desktop screen? I feel that something will develop for us desktop users, it may be that Gaze software, who knows?
Thanks for sharing that info with us.

The OP said the budget was about $1000.
Personally, having built quite a few for clients over the years... a good gamer for around $1000, might be a wee bit challenging.
'whiteman',
You might consider (if it can wait) to hold off 'til the fall & (then) build it w/ Win8.
