    eVaild, welcome to the Forum!

My suggestion at this time, being that Win 8 RP is still a developing OS (not stable yet), stay away from overclocking for now. I don't recommend it anyway, if a computer no longer meets my needs, time for a new one (or CPU upgrade, if feasible).

I know of no such software recommended for Windows 8 RP at this time. But other members may. I advise against it due to the risk of component damage, which is well documented.

    Hi eValid,

Welcome to this Windows 8 Forums.

At this moment, Windows 8 RP is a Beta OS so that only some overlocking softwares available for Windows 7 or XP. Here is the list.

    1 CPUZ and GPUZ
    2 AMD Overdrive
    3 Intel Desktop Control Center
    4 Motherboard tools
    5 MemSet and CPU-Tweaker

    Hope this helps.

I just can't see risking my hardware to get a few more cycles out of a CPU on a beta OS with little or no safeguards in place. Thanks but no thanks.

    Hey guys,

Thank you for suggestions and I will carefully consider the risk of overlocking my Windows 8.

The people who design and build CPU chips, carefully set the operating speed for every chip they make, to operate within SAFE parameters. Exceeding those SAFE parameters will cause overheating and eventually Chip Failure.

It's not worth it, to blow out your CPU, for a few more clock cycles per second.

If your CPU chip is operating properly and the heatsink and fan are working properly, you should be able to lay your finger on the heatsink at any time, and it will feel no more than just warm to the touch.
If it's so hot that it makes you draw back your finger with a loud "Ouch!".(or other expletives) It's too hot and you should do something about that, immediately, if not sooner.

    Cheers Mates!

I'll pass on the overclocking software. I do want a more powerful desktop PC, & by the release of Windows 9 (assuming that's the name of the next release), & I'm already stashing cash each month for the cause. I'll have a killer PC.

That's my suggestion to anyone who wants to push their hardware to it's outer limits, upgrade your hardware or buy/build a new computer that has all of the power you need. Then, the overclocking software won't be needed.

Too, most CPU's has a certain meltdown point. When it's steadily running a hairline from that point, it's sizzling. So is the MB beneath it. Unless one can afford to replace their hardware, don't do it. Really, is one half of a GHz worth it?
