8 is on a roll! Let's hope it continues.

This, along with the fact that the Media Center keys are emailed from a separate company, may explain the delay in delivery.

4 million users in that short of a time frame, is plenty of proof that the Windows/Office beta programs needs to keep coming. No doubt that 8 RP/CP & the 90 day Enterprise trial played a part in 8's early success. Many users probably gave up nothing (prior OS's) to get 8 Pro w/Media Center.

Wow, it seems like that Windows 8 is very popular and useful. Cannot help using this excellent system.

I'm with you with that, & I also have a hunch that some of the Apple crowd is impressed enough to try out some of the new Windows 8 tablets. Some comes with the Office 2013 beta suite.

That would make sense, since many iOS users are also running Windows 7 & Office 2010 for their real work. Meaning that the rest of the computer is basically for play.

And the $40 deal also gave reason for many to move forward, I would like to think that 8 is all but going to drive the final nail in Vista's coffin. Those who couldn't afford 7 can certainly afford 8 at this price. And some, but not all, XP users can also move forward, having a NX capable CPU is going to be a sticking point for many of the earlier models.

Windows 8 is going to be a success, it's way too early to see what other OS's are impacted, but it's going to be interesting to see what the 1st quarter of Windows 8 sales are going look like. If like Windows 7, expect solid growth though mid-spring next year.

I may get a copy for my MSI notebook at this price. Fortunately, I have a backed up version of 8 RP (that was installed on it), so like this desktop, I'd not have to give up my OEM OS to upgrade. I would like to buy another SSD first, to install in the DVD drive's place, I already have the adapter for it. The reason being, that I'd have little room to install another OS on the one that's installed. Plus my recovery partition is on the one that I have, I don't want to lose that, nor my Data partition, which contains my favorite VM.

A 90GB one would meet the needs for Windows 8, or even a 120-128GB one, at the right price. There's plenty of time, RP is good until mid January.

Was going to get one for my T42 ThinkPad, but the Upgrade Assistant caught the NX feature not being on it. I really didn't feel that it would qualify anyway, but had nothing to lose in trying.

The new pricing probably didn't hurt either. MS usually goes for the throat $$$-wise. Maybe they figure they'll make more than enough through the apps store to offset the price decrease.

The MS store may have some impact, but at this time, most everything that runs on Windows 7 does on 8. Possibly with the next version of Windows, they'll push the app store harder, right now, they're just trying to get it's users on Windows 8. And hopefully lure some Apple users to the new Windows tablets.

I've been hooked since 02/29, Windows 8 runs much faster (on my desktop) than 7 does. This is likely the last upgrade this one will take, it'll be 6 years old by the next one, & I want a new PC by that time. It may be possible that I'll run the betas on this one again, that's slightly over 2 years away, provided a steady 3 year release cycle.

4 million in this short of a time was actually more than I expected, who knows, Windows 7 may lose the most market share. Because most computers built to run 7 will run 8 easily. The exception being some netbooks, these were simply a fad anyway.

After Windows 8 upgraded from Windows 7, I found that the system and applications run slower, not that fast as Windows 7 did. Anyway, Windows 8 is just $39.99, much cheaper even than Diablo III (I got it for almost $60). According to its complication and usage, it is valuable for upgrading.

But there is a question I wonder: there is no Windows 8 Setup file, and I can't find "Windows 8 download" shortcut after upgrade to Windows 8, how can I reinstall Windows 8 if my Windows 8 is crashed? That troubles me a lot.

Could it be said that I have to buy a software that allows me to clone my system drive for backup?

The ISO file is probably in a temp internet file somewhere. Worth looking for. That's why I ALWAYS recommend burning the ISO file to DVD, even if you do not use it for installation. Perhaps you can check in the Windows folder.

Perhaps a search for Win8Pro.iso will bring something up, unless of course you have cleared your TIF.

A Reset install would clean install (almost) Win 8. A Refresh install will save all Windows apps, but not your installed apps.

I have been unable to find a source yet for the ISO file download.

This article lists a couple other possibilities.

    I just read this elsewhere:

Yes, you can purchase it, there's a link in your confirmation email to purchase a backup DVD (I did myself). Total cost after taxes & shipping was slightly less than $18. Taxes vary from state to state. I ordered the DVD a few hours after install on 10/26, but just got my email where it was shipped today, so don't expect it in 3 to 5 days after ordering.

I did make an ISO, & have copied two of them to other media, but I wanted an extra copy to store in a safe place, away from home, just in case.
