Default Windows 8 will connect to a network, but Windows 7 won't?

My school has two networks, one for guests, and one for teachers and students. For example, the one for teachers and students is call SchoolName, and the guest is called SchoolNameGuest. The guest network is painfully slow and my personal laptop running windows 7 won't connect using my student credentials, however, I tried windows 8 and it does connect. Does anyone know why this is? Is there a way I can get windows 7 to connect? Is it because I have Home Premium and not Pro or Ultimate?

    I have a Dell Inspiron 9400.

If it helps, my friends macbook can connect fine and so can my iPhone.

Look through and write down all the settings in Win 8 then check those same settings in Win 7 and compare them.
