Why does my modem/router keep disconnecting?
Hi,
We have a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband router.
I'm not sure which one it is exactly that is disconnecting but it is honestly really annoying. If I'm lucky it will happen more than 3 times in a span of 2 hours. Some days, it doesn't even disconnect, but when it does, all devices(ipods, ipads, laptops, etc.) lose internet connection and we have to unplug both the router and the modem and plug them back in to reset the internet.
How can this be fixed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Why does my modem/router keep disconnecting?
How old is the router? The G band is getting pretty old by internet status.
I had to find the best location for my router. I also found the 2.4 GHz band had a lot more interference with neighbors and wireless phones and even microwaves.
Many of the newer N band routers have both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz capabilities.
Try a different location in your home. I found that my Win 8 CP OS actually connects as well or better than my Win 7 Ultimate and actually has better success in talking to my other PC's on our network. Wireless signals can be disrupted by building construction, objects in the way, etc. especially on the 2.4 GHz band.

Re: Why does my modem/router keep disconnecting?
Hi Stephen,
Welcome to this Windows 8 Forums.
Only two possibilities. Either the router or your line. Call the ISP get them to change the router, if still the same problem call the phone company and they can test the line.
One other thing make sure the router is in the master socket and not connected via an extension, and you have Broadband filters connected.
One more possibility there could be radio interference, change the router first to rule out the latter.
Plz let us know if it works or not.

Thank you Ted and sunyekerry.
I've called the ISP and it was fixed.

Thanks for posting back to let us know it was an ISP problem, not a Win 8 problem.
