Default No Connections are Available -Windows 8 Pro (Purchased on 26 Oct 2012)

    Ridiculous!!

I bought this from a Microsoft site and haven't been able to connect to the internet since. I was running Windows 7 64bit on A Toshiba C850, all my drivers were fine, I was able to connect to the internet perfectly.
Can somebody please explain how by me upgrading the operating system it's stopped my wireless network connecting entirely?
Also please provide me with a simple step by step guide on how to fix this? i.e whats drivers I need to download or what things I can provide to help you help me. I know the basics on Computers, too much of the ins and outs will confuse me.

I've looked in device manager and the drivers that are missing are the Network Controller and the PCI Simple Communications Controller, If i knew which make they were, I would have already downloaded them. Could you please specify which ones I may need?

    Please help me fix this!!

    I have a HP Pavilion 2020se.
I also installed Windows8 which i officially got from their website. Wifi drivers are installed but I can't turn it on.
You two are not the only guys with the problem. It seems to be a very common and a major issue with a lot of people.
Its a problem with the windows.
It's new, its buggy and full of issues.
I have installed Official drivers from HP to no avail.

All we can do now is wait for Microsoft to fix their half broken OS.

But if you do find a solution, do post it here please. I been looking for past three hours to no success.

    Hey Guys,

I've also posted on the Microsoft website where i've had a few replies,
I still need to try the last reponse as an option this evening.

Maybe it would be worth a try for you as well.

As far as my built in wi-fi (Atheros AR5000EG) it doesn't work either on my HP desktop, but I use my Ethernet connection anyway, that was no loss to me.

Have any of you tried unplugging your router(s), both wired & wireless for a minute or so, to see what would happen? Or tried a USB wi-fi adapter to get your computer to update? It's essential to get your hardware updated before making the assumption that Windows 8 is buggy.

And did either of you run Windows 8 RP or Enterprise & had the same issues? That's what they were for, to test for compatibility issues & to learn the OS.

My suggestion would be to grab an inexpensive USB wi-fi adapter, the N-150 types are available at many places for less than $20. There is usually a small CD with the driver included. Make sure that it's at least Windows 7 certified. It's always good to have one of these around, I have a couple of them.

You should then be able to upgrade your computers, MS provides the essential drivers for most networking features to work. At the current time, this is my best suggestion, grab a adapter & update with that. Then you'll see what else needs attention.

MonkeyDrone, being that you have an HP, as do I, it's possible that your wi-fi card *may* not work with Windows 8. HP is the very worst for support from one OS to the next. It's not Microsoft's fault that HP mainly supports only the factory OS, I've been there for three years. I'll never purchase the brand again.

I ran my setup from within 8 RP, & credit this for my successful install of 8 Pro.

Hopefully you all have a backup image of your computers, or at a minimum, recovery disks from which to install your factory OS.

Please keep us informed of your progress.

Use an app such as Speccy to see what the manufacturer is of the wireless adapters that are not working, then go to those manufacturers to get updated drivers. MS does NOT write drivers for specific devices. They use the drivers supplied by the manufacturers. If your device manufacturers are not updating their devices for use with Win 8 Pro, that is NOT a MS issue. Don't blame the OS for this.

I manged to fix it, I used the troubleshooter and chose find driver on system, then linked it to my C drive. Thankfully it worked but it still wouldn't connect to the wifi so I looked for my laptop user manual and follow to function key prompts to enable wifi. With mine being a Toshiba satellite c850 the hot keys were FN+F12. I hope this helps somebody else.

Thank you all for your time and help

danjserge, glad to hear that you found the issue.

This is plenty of reason that computer users should store their manual where it'll be available when needed. Many doesn't even read the thing, which is why they have no recovery disks (instructions for this task is there), & lots of other vital info, as you found.

I've had to refer to mine more than once, to solve similar issues (those hot keys). When I bought my MSI notebook, I thought the webcam was missing or broke, but it was a combination of Fn+F6 that controlled it. And usually when the OS is reinstalled, or a new one installed, these functions reverts back to their default position, off.

    Good heads up thinking.

    Best of Luck,
