    Is the router new?
Is its firmware up to date?
Have you contact the router's Help Desk?
Are wireless adapter drivers up to date?
Is it a single modem/router unit or 2 separate pieces of gear?
Have you contact your ISP about the problem?
Are you connecting a laptop or a desktop machine?
    Can you connect your smartphone?
Are you using a wireless adapter?
Are its drivers up to date?
What is the distance of location of the router vs the device your wanting to connect?

Need the above addressed & or answered before knowing what might be the apt things to say.

    Cheers,
    Drew

    the router is new.
i do not know if the firmware is up to date.
i am about to contact the routers help desk.

yes the wifi driver got updated yesterday.
    it is only one unit.
no i have not contacted my isp.
    laptop.
yes i can connect my tablet.
yes i am using a wireless adapter because there is not a place to connect a wire on my laptop(acer Aspire V5).
driver genius informs me there are 21 drivers in 12 driver packager who needs to be updated.
i am sitting 1 meter from the router.
    kind regards isaccasi.

    Isaccasi,

Ok, this is all, really, helpful. Please, let me know where things stand after talking w/ the router help desk and your ISP.
If the ISP supplied the router then the ISP & the router Help Desk are one in the same.
The router Help Desk can deal w/ the firmware update question. Be sure to ask them to check it.
    How old is the Acer?
Please, get rid of that stupid driver genius & pay no attention to, completely ignore whatever BS it told you.
What does the Acer say or do? No offence but, are you sure its wireless is turned on?? Maybe a wee button or switch w/ a light.

Anyway, let me know what happens when you phone Support.

    Cheers,
    Drew

Ah, so my hunch that the problem is in the Acer was correct. And I guess it's young enough for the warranty to apply. That's good, then.

Well, I don't like McAfee. Nor is it necessary on Windows 8.1 The OS has perfectly good security embedded. You can, certainly, take McAfee out and use Windows Defender & Windows Firewall and see if things are any different or better. I haven't researched it but, I have, certainly, seen things like Norton & McAfee cause problems and worsened if their firewalls are involved. Ergo, go ahead & try this & let me know afterwards.

You only run one security & one firewall. Use the Windows stuff that comes w/ Windows 8.1

    Cheers,
    Drew

Technically, McAfee was offered by Acer. There was no obligation to used it. The choice existed to go w/ it OR decline & machine would have used WD. Maybe, when comes time to pay to renew consider going to WD.

No worries. Happy to hear you are ok, now.

    Cheers,
    Drew
