Default Outlook 2010 regularly goes "not responding"

If I go to delete a mail, Outlook often grays out and the bar at the top says "not responding", I can then close it down, restart it and it will work fine.

Then other times when closing Outlook, and I have it set to delete all deleted mail it starts doing that then goes "not responding" again.

This does not happen every time it seems to be random, so not sure why it occurs, if anyone has any suggestions they would be most welcome.

Hi CoolJohnB, welcome to this Windows 8 Forums.

Problems with Outlook 2010 hanging, freezing or not responding may occur for one or more of the following reasons:

This issue can occur if you have not installed the latest updates.
Outlook may be in use by another process.
A previously installed add-in may be interfering with Outlook.
Your mailbox may be too large.
You may need to repair your Office 2010 programs.
Outlook data files may have become corrupt, or damaged.
Antivirus software may be outdated, or conflicting with Outlook.
Your user profile may have become corrupt.
Another program may be conflicting with Outlook.

Method 1: Install the latest updates
Method 2: Check to make sure Outlook is not in use by another process
Method 3: Investigate possible issues with add-ins
Method 4: Check to see if your mailbox is oversized
Method 5: Repair your Office 2010 programs
Method 6: Repair your Outlook data files
Method 7: Check to see if your antivirus software is up-to-date or conflicting with Outlook
Method 8: Create a new user profile in Outlook

    Hope this helps.

There could be several reasons of Outlook not responding issue like any Add-ins, Anti-virus program, synchronization issue or a corrupt PST file. You can disable your antivirus and then check your Outlook. Also check for any Add-ins by enabling or disabling them. Moreover if your there is corruption in your PST file then repair it with inbox repair tool or some other useful tool.
