Default I canít activate office 2010 in Windows8

    Hi there,

My desktop and my laptop both run windows 8 and I successfully activated my authorized Microsoft 2010 in my desktop. Yesterday I uninstalled it and tried install it on my laptop but the 0ffice 2010 indicates me that the activation key has been registered. The activation key only works in one computer? What should I do guys?

Waiting for your reply! I am really appreciated.

You could call MS. They will assist with the activation.

You mean you didn't know that? When you buy a retail version of a program you only get a license to run that program on ONE computer. Read your Users license agreement (ULA)
There are exceptions, of course, but according to your post, you don't have one of those.

If you need Office functions on both computers, try "Open Office". It works just like MS Office and it's FREE.

Remember, Win-8 is only a Beta Test version and not a full blown OS. You should not need to run "Production Software" like Office on such a computer. In fact, since this OS will go dead one of these days, it NOT even a good idea.

    Good Luck,

I would suggest to buy an additional license (of Office 2010) & properly install on your laptop. That way, there won't be any problems.

The rule is, for all versions of Windows & Office (excluding family packs), each computer needs it's own license key (COA). Only if you bought a family pack, you're allowed additional installs.

If in doubt, you may wish to call MS to confirm. Their support phone # is on the package that you have.

I remember reading a Eula for Office (MS answers forum discusses this) that allows a user to install Office 2010 on a desktop and laptop that this person himself owns and uses. The 2 copies cannot be installed on 2 desktop PC's, and are supposed to be used by the same user.

Ted, you are correct... 1 Desktop & 1 laptop. Will have to call MS.

It's just so much simpler to Use a FREE program like Open Office and tell MS to "Stuff it!".

I love using something FREE, instead of something with licenses, ULA's and all that junk.

    Cheers Mates!

Open Office is better than nothing, I suppose (it's the default Office with Linux OS's). But I installed it once on XP Pro, & when trying to open the program, a box appeared, saying that I needed Java. I had the latest version of Java on that OS. Why it didn't see it installed & not work, I don't know.

I prefer to use Office Pro Plus 2010, it does everything that I need. As far as that goes, Office 2007 Ultimate did also, but being that I had the newer version, I installed that instead. Don't know why, but it was recommended to install the 32 bit version, rather than the 64 bit one, so that's what I did.

Anyway, glad to hear that when I get the next Office, I can use it on both (that is, if the EULA doesn't change) my desktop & notebook.

My wife works for a local university and I was able to get our MS Office 2010 Pro Plus for about $20. I got a downloadable copy for my granddaughter's new laptop for $9.95. If I had to pay retail for this product no way would I have it, but at these prices I can't say no.

Mine was more costly. I had a TechNet Professional Plus subscription in 2010-2011. Around $300, for one year's subscription, with a discount code.

Probably late fall, or early next year, I'll get another, but the Desktop one. It's a lessor subscription, but for me, 2 keys for each OS/Office are plenty at this time. That amounts to 2 copies of Windows 8 & 2 copies of the latest Office. Not bad for $199+ tax.
