Default windows 8 RP installation has failed.

I used windows 8 consumer preview. Now I am going to install windows 8 Release preview. I did correctly. Did a clean install. Downloaded from website of microsoft. Burnt to DVD.

When i start installing Windows 8 the installaton process just goes nicely and after the computer restarts and starts preparing process the process reaches to some extent and the computer goes to sleep state and when i start the computer again it says installation failed.

I would be asking, "why is the computer going to sleep?"
    Where is that coming from?

Things like "Sleep", and "Hibernate" should not be happening during an OS install.

I haven't had a computer sleep or hibernate during an OS install, but one time while clean installing Win 8 RP, the installer crashed (presumably a driver install failure). I immediately tried again & the install went right through w/no issues.

My suggestion would be simply to try again & see what happens. Make certain that all steps beginning with the download site & method is followed for optimal results. Ted has already outlined the steps 2 posts above mine, no need for me to repeat this.

One thing that I will repeat though, is that RP requires "NX" to be enabled in the BIOS, whereas it wasn't with CP. This should have been the requirement to begin with, but it wasn't. Make sure that it is enabled before proceeding.

It's my hope that MS will allow users to try the final release for 30 days prior to mandatory activation, like was the case with Windows 7. Because it's not going to be a cheap OS, all users should be able to try the final build before purchasing.

I certainly plan to "try before buy", as I've had some recent issues. 2 clean installs & 1 reset in 3 days & still getting BSOD's. This issue has just recently developed, I fully hope that whatever is causing it is resolved.

Because I really do like Windows 8 RP. But I won't buy an OS that's going to be buggy on me, having to re-install often. As a beta tester, this goes with the territory, but not with a Retail OS. I do believe that the folks at MS will get this right before retail availability.

I would recommend staying with a licensed, released OS until the bugs are worked out of this beta OS. Not all PC's will work with Win 8, that is just a fact. That is why, whenever changing to a new OS, you always keep your original OS. Win 8 may not work on your PC. There is no guarantee it will. Always keep your original OS when installing a second OS. If it works you can always then delete the original OS and use just the new OS, but if it does not work and you did not keep the original OS intact, you might be out of luck.

This is why my installs of any of Windows 8 betas has never been on the same HDD as my OEM installs. I was never going to give Windows 7 up totally anyway. That's where my very important business, such as tax return software & related info is installed & stored (on a Data Partition, or course), & will continue to be, until I buy a new desktop PC.

I have a lot of money tied up in these 2 OEM installs, both were upgraded to 7 Pro by purchasing Windows Anytime Upgrade keys (a total of around $180). No, I'm not giving these up, one of these upgrades are barely over a year old.

There were some who thought that I was throwing away money on purchasing those 1TB (32MB cache, 7200rpm) HDD's, while on sale for $49-$59, but not me. I seen it was an investment in the future. Plus I have some HDD's that are smaller in size.

Serious computer users cannot seem to have enough backup space. I'm waiting to see how Windows 8 goes, afterwards I plan to get a 2TB storage drive. Many of them can now be had for $99 on promo. But my priority at this time is Windows 8, learning it, & getting it to work on my PC.

It's my hope that it will work out, as Windows 8 RP isn't as resource heavy, & hopefully that will lead to my PC lasting until the next version is released. At that time, it will be replaced, & not before then. If it's still running, I'll pass it to my wife, as the old ThinkPad T42 running XP will no longer be supported.

I also have to consider the price of the final OS, as this is going to be a 3 year investment. By that, I mean that I'm only going to be using it for 3 years. Upgrade install is out, because that means giving up what I have. Full Retail is also out, as I'm not paying $299 for 8 Pro + Media Extender. Windows Full Retail Pro versions have always been around that price, I don't expect any different here.

It'll either be an OEM install, or I'll buy a TechNet Desktop subscription for $199+ local taxes. The latter would be best, as the next version of Office will be included, 2 COA's of all supported OS's & Office packages.

But if Windows 8 doesn't work out, I'll stay with Windows 7 for things of importance & go with my next best option, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, which by chance, runs flawlessly on my desktop. And is very fast & secure.

We'll see in October what happens. No need to rush anything here, & plenty of time to save cash for future plans.

To those whose installations are failing, don't give up. Repeat the steps outlined across the forum, make sure that all are properly followed. Don't shortcut by burning the install disk wide open, burn it slow. And read the solutions on the forum for help, there's many posted here. Always feel free to ask questions.

And to those who are experienced, feel free to answer as many as you can. Any & all answers that leads to solutions to issues are greatly appreciated. Guess I can't help much... my Win8 has been rock solid & (almost) 100% problem free; just occasional anomalies w/ videos going Full Screen. But, sure as hell no blue screens, crashes or the like nor, frankly, any signs of bugginess.

    Cheers,
    Drew
