Default Why does my windows 8 release preview take so long to download?

How do I get Windows 8 release preview download to be faster? I am trying to download the windows 8 release preview in iso format and it says the download time is "greater than 15 hours" on the estimation? How long did it take you to download and install your Win 8 RP successfully?

This depends on a couple of things. How busy is the server (how many people trying to download at the same time) and your internet connection speed. I would try a download manager. These allow you to stop and begin again where you left off if necessary.

Perhaps TM will jump in when he signs on and post what Download Manager he uses.

Glad you finally got it. I use dual boot as well. Not a good idea to overwrite Win 7. I wish everyone would do this as opposed to wiping out their licensed released original OS.

The minute that RP was released, I jumped on it like a goose on a Junebug!

For a long time now, I've used the "Internet Download Manager" (IDM) for all my downloads.
I don't do it often, but it will let me download two programs at the same time. So when W8/RP hit the servers, I set IDM to download both the 32 bit and the 64 bit versions simultaneously.
My normal download speed on my 5meg Cable connection, is about 65 to 70 kbps. Using IDM, that jumps up to over 600 kbps. It's like a ten times increase.

So downloading two HUGE files at the same time, the download speed for each was over 300 kbps.
I just started the downloads and went back to watching TV. I did not time it, but it did take over an hour.
No big deal. But without IDM it would have taken all night to get both files.

On Dial UP, I'd start a download before going to bed and catch it the next morning. Thank God, we've moved beyond that now.

    Cheers Mates!

Cool Re: Why does my windows 8 release preview take so long to download?

    Addendum:

There is one more thing, that 99.99% of users either don't know about or don't know how to fix.

In the registry, there are 77 settings that control how well your computer works with your router, modem and ISP server.
Only a very well trained computer engineer could go in there and set all 77 parameters correctly, but fortunately there is a program that can do that for you. I've tried several programs in the past, but most were seriously lacking.

The program I'm using today, to optimize my internet connection is "AVG Tune-Up".
NO, it's not free, but it has so many apps built in that it's well worth what I paid for it.

The first time I ran the program on my PC, it optimized over 40 of the 77 parameters for my internet speed. If you use Firefox, there are also several parameters that can be manually input to make FF faster. That info is all over the internet, for anyone wanting it.
Just Google, "make firefox faster 2012".
It's best to have that 'tweak sheet' printed out and 'In-Hand' before you start doing the tweaking, because several of the tweaks involve typing long commands, that are very specific. That's one place you don't want to mess up.

    Y'all have a great day now, Y'hear?
