other computers on my network boot up once I open windows explorer from the desktop
Hello everybody,
Ever since installing Windows 8 release preview, I open windows explorer from the desktop and within less than 1 minute, 2 or 3 other computers on my network boot up. I dont know what happens on other computers. I am just wondering if any one has seen this and where would I find a way to disable this feature. I assume that Windows Explorer is checking for local machines.
Thanks.

Do these other PC's also have Win 8? I have 3 PC's on our network, but for now the other 2 are Win 7 PC's. I do not see this at all.
Are your other PC's shutdown or in Sleep/Hibernate mode?

Hi Ted,
Thanks for answer. All computers are running windows 8 release preview. Sometimes other computers are in sleep mode. You have any idea?

Hi sherry,
Welcome to our forum.
If this issue happens to sleep mode, you need to check the other computer’s BIOS settings for Wakeup on LAN. If enabled, disable the settings. On some BIOS it may be Power on by PCI Devices settings. It could also be a Wake on LAN setting on the router.

Sherry, threeone beat me to the punch. I would also suspect the Wake on LAN setting in the bios. Shutting down the PC's might be another alternative if the Bios change is not available or does not work.
