A clean install will delete everything on that partition.

Back up all data to someplace else before the reinstall.
Creating & using a Data partition for all of your important things is a good thing to do, regardless of the version of Windows (or other brand of OS) used. On my desktop PC HDD's, which each has 3 OS's installed, there is a Data partition, which has folders for each OS (downloads, documents, pictures) installed.
This prevents your critical data from being overwritten due to having to install the OS. Still, that partition needs to be backed up, and/or copied to an external HDD. Because who knows when there's a major hardware failure around the corner? Sometimes, with HDD's, there may be what's known as a "death rattle", many times there's no warning at all.

Hi all,
Sorry for my late reply. I took a trip to Madrid in the last five days.
I will create a Data partition before reinstall Windows 8.
Thanks a lot.
Just backup your c:\users\<username> directory and copy it back in after reinstall![]()
Recently, I came up with a novel idea, for a secure place to store copies of all my data, pic's, etc.
I got a 16 gig Flash Drive and plugged it in to an Unused USB port on the back of my PC and I just leave it there.
When ever I need to back up something, I just copy it to my Flash Drive. So when, not if, the hard drive shoots craps (fails) my data files are protected.
A word to the wise, is sufficient! Eh?
