Default can't reinstall windows 8 or change to windows 7

Hello, I've had some problems with my PC, so I decided to try out the new feature of windows 8, the clean up, where it deletes all files and re-installs windows 8, but it bugged out it looks like, because now I can't start anything, it only says problem with windows, you have to repair, but that doesn't work either. So I decided to try installing windows 7 again. When I come to the point where I choose what hard drive I want to install windows on, none of them work, it says that it cant install it on a MBR hard drive. Can someone help me please? because I can't use my computer at the moment... thanks for any response

    stokka, welcome to the Forum.

Did you insert your Installation media (DVD) and boot to it? Is your Bios set up to boot to CD/DVD first before trying the HD.

The installation media contains the initial boot files necessary to install any version of Windows.

    stokka,

It does not really matter to me how many HDDs you have. Do this to as many as you going to want to have ready to use. Take them out, hook them up to another (functioning) machine. Delete those drives & format them. Put them back in your machine & try the installation, again.

    Cheers,
    Drew

Yes, I have found the installation is far better if the drive or partition you are starting with is blank.

stokka, in your case I would do what Drew suggest for ALL the drives as I think you may have a serious virus and malware infection across all drives. When you delete the stuff on your drives and format them, it will wipe out any and all of this potential bad stuff on the drives.

I would take all the drives out, then format just one of them and start with that freshly cleaned drive. Just set all the other HDs to the side for now. You only need one clean HD to start with. Once you get Win 7 installed, then you can start with another drive and use your cleaned, freshly installed Win 7 to format the remaining drives.

At that point come back and we will discuss how to set Win 7 and Win 8 RP up in a dual boot scenario with you.

If you are unable to borrow a good, operational PC to help with formatting these drives, you might need to purchase a clean, blank HD to start with.

I corrected the 1st sentence in my last post. Was supposed to say, as it does now, "I does NOT matter..."

Just take the drives to a friend's computer. That's the easiest. If you don't have the adapter to USB your HDDs to a machine then, it can only, be done w/ a desktop machine, not a laptop.

Could do like Ted said & just do one, get 7 in & then, do the others from it. I just thought, since it's done so quickly, may as well do them all @ once.

No worries. Anxious for an update.

    Cheers,
    Drew

It's always better, when installing any new OS, that the installer can only see ONE DRIVE....the one you want it to install the OS to. If you have any other drives in your system, UN-Plug them during the install.

To install Win-8, the drive or partition you're installing to, should be completely BLANK.

Follow these simple rules and you should have no problems installing Win-8.

    Cheers Mate!
