Default Can't get DVD install to work

    Hi all,

I've been trying to install Windows 8 Pro x64 on my PC from DVD, but so far have failed miserably.

It boots from disc just fine and I then get the blue window image and the white "spinny thing" below. Unfortunately, it sits here for over an hour before finally moving on to the language selection screen. After that, it sits there with a fairly generic message akin to "Setup is running" and then just sits there. I left it overnight and it was still like that in the morning.

I've done a bit of googling and have seen some comments alluding that it could be an issue with the Marvell chipset in my mobo (a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 with 6GB and an i930 for reference), but it's still a guess as to the cause.

I also tried installing from DVD from inside the existing Win 7 OS. However, I didn't progress too far there either, as in this new version it seems to have lost the option to decide where you want to install. I just got asked if I wanted to wipe everything and start from scratch or preserve only the files in the User area, neither route being one i want to take. My aim was to install it onto an old 160GB disk that I had to hand, so I could trash it without consequences.

Does anyone have suggestions with regards to booting from disc? Also, did I miss a trick with installing under windows so I could pick a different target drive?

    TIA!

If you install from within a previous OS, it does not give the option to choose where to install, it installs directly into the partition you start it in.

I would suspect a download or burn problem. It might be worth the effort to start over with a fresh download and burn to DVD.

Yeah, I figured it was that, but then I thought "No, they couldn't be that stupid". Obviously wrong there :-S

I guess I'll try another download then unless there are any other suggestions.

Do you use a Download Manager?
I just use "Internet Download Manager" and never get a bad download.

Then burn the ISO to DVD, using the slowest speed you can select.
I usually use 4x. (nothing any faster, for a reliable burn)

If you're using a spare HD for the install, make sure it's the ONLY drive that is powered up on your motherboard.
Don't give the installer any chance to install to the wrong drive.

    Good Luck!
