I copied the Sha 1-hash when I downloaded the ISO file. I have downloaded a hash calc program, but my DVD has 9 files on it that all give a different 40 digit number. Nothing seems to relate to the Sha 1 that I was supposed to have downloaded. I'm really in the dark about what it all means, except for the fact that what I downloaded should match what was listed on the download page.

This is the official MS download. You can see the Sha-1 Hash listed. For other versions of Win 8 there should be similar info available.

I would definitely use a different DVD for each ISO file. You say your DVD has 9 different files on it. I do not understand this. A DVD will not fit 9 copies of Win 8.

Download the ISO file, Right Click the ISO file and choose Burn Image to Disk. This will use the native burner to burn this ISO file to a DVD and create the installation DVD.

You said right click on the ISO file. When I right click on the DVD drive it shows me 9 files (Autorun, setup, en-us, etc.) I get a different 40 digit Sha for every one of them. Do you see my confusion?

Oh, that's the DVD burned from the ISO download from the official Microsoft sight the you alluded to. They told me to check ths Sha 1-hash, I just wish it were that simple. Thank you for your simple directions, I just couldn't comply. I'm trying to not take my frustration out on you,: you're just trying to help!

Did you install Hash Tab? If not, do so now. Is so, Right Click on the original ISO file (Not on a file on the DVD, I misunderstood what you had on the DVD). On the original ISO file (The file you downloaded before you burned it to DVD) select properties from the Right Click context menu. There will be a Ile Hashes tab on the right click context. This Sha-1 Hash must run. It will give you a Sha-1 Hash that matches the Sha-1 Hash given on the web page.

It really is pretty simple after you set it up the first time. As you can see the various hashes are displayed. If the web page does not show the Sha-1 Hash, it should show one of the others.
