• Windows 8 Tablets Faces Bleak Future

NPD DisplaySearch revealed that the Windows 8 tablet will not make much of an impact on the market until 2014. This revelation on the Windows 8 tablet comes as the market research company recently increased its tablet projections for the coming year to over 184 million units from an earlier projection of around 169 million units. DisplaySearch also indicated that the tablet market will reach around 425 million by 2017.

According to a DisplaySearch analyst, Richard Shim, the tablet market is currently on the rise as investments continue to increase. This growth in the tablet market, which does not include the Windows 8 tablet, comes as notebooks have not seen much growth compared to its market performance in the past.

Price, price, price, means everything. Remember those HP tablets with the Web OS for $99 & how fast they went?

I'm not suggesting to sell Windows based tablets that cheap, but the OEM's needs to take a look at pricing & lower prices. Once Windows tablets become popular, then raise the prices.

Too, I'm beginning to have thoughts that MS hasn't pursued the tablets in the early going, allowing Apple to gain a huge lead early in this race. It's not that MS has just discovered the tablet, there are XP versions of them in use today, though those are unpopular now.

In recent years, MS has flip-flopped around with the phone & tablet divisions, not allowing time for product development, pulling the plug on potentially great projects, just too impatient to allow a market to develop. No steady position in marketing either And with Steve Ballmer at the helm, I don't expect things to get better.

If Windows 8 Tablets sales aren't successful, it'll probably be due to the lack of skilled marketing combined with impatience at MS.
