    Default Win 8 Compatibility

Just looking for opinions here. I have installed Windows 8 Pro on my PC and now I am tempted to try it on my laptop, but it isn't included in the tested for compatibility list. If it fails, I should be able to get my Win7 back with Acronis True Image. I have a Dell Studio 1747 (coming up to three years old). Hmmm I tried to include a Speccy txt attachment. Didn't work.

Both my laptops are older than 3 years old and both work exceptionally well with Win 8 Pro. As long as you have an up to date Acronis Image, AND an Acronis Rescue Boot Disk go ahead and give it a try.

Thanks; that was my thoughts; just didn't want to waste $40.00. I'll save it for a week-end project.
Edit: Re: Acronis; bummer there as 2012 isn't Win8 compatible; another 30 bucks up to 2013.

Yes, Acronis needs the 2013 version for Win 8. Acronis does state they are still working on 2012 compatibility.

    Allan,

Ultimately the final decision certainly is yours. That said, I have a wee story for your consideration. I have both a desktop and a laptop. Of course Windows 8 is in the desktop; a Windows 8 Pro GA, that was given to me. The only way I can show Windows 8 to clients & friends w/ that is if they visit my office. So, I had intended to, also, buy the Upgrade for the laptop as the would facilitate sharing Win8 w/ clients & friends more easily. Laptop is running Vista and maybe 4 years old... so age not that critical, one wouldn't expect. Running the Win8 Assessment Tool on the laptop suggested no real obstacles or serious compatibility issues. However, when going to the brand's web site my particular model is not on their list of compatible units that they list as supported. I don't want to waste $40, either. Now, I'm probably capable of dealing w/ whatever scenario there may have been but, @ least for now, I decided to hold off.

In other words, you have my empathy. You could try it, maybe be alright or make it alright. And you could revert back & re-install 7.

    Decision is yours.

    Cheers,
    Drew

Did it and I'm glad; works like a charm and fast. I had to disable hibernate because of my start button, which is mis-behaving and whenever I have to do a cold start, wonder if it's going to work; so I have it always on and use sleep mode. Thanks for the suggestions. Regarding Acronis: I upgraded my PC to 2013 and use the boot cd to image my laptop.

    Allan,

Cool!! No surprise it's faster. Also, there is nothing wrong w/ ON & Sleep; really, quite fine that way, a good way to run. You're welcome. Enjoy.

    Cheers,

Glad we could help convince you. I think you were most likely already convinced, just needed a little push.
