I have a recent lenovo laptop, the wi-fi adpater seems to stop working almost every time I shutdown/sleep the comptuer. the troubleshooter succeeded at fixing it in just a minute but I'd like it to not have to do that. What steps can I take to ensure it works everytime? It may not be just a driver issue, the computer dual boots Win8 and Ubuntu 12.04 and using Ubuntu doesn't recognize wireless networks, this is an issue that started last week.

"Sleep" has been buggy since first released by MS years ago. Don't use it!
Over the years, I've seen many a PC that went to sleep and never woke up again. (without technical assistance)

Your laptop should have two states.....ON....and OFF. Sleep and Hibernate both can cause you fits.
I just shut them both OFF and never worry about them again.

If your Wi-Fi is set to automatically log on to a particular site, then it should do that every time you boot up.
Both of my laptops do that!

okay, except my laptop travels almost everywhere I do for work, so I have a home access point and a work access point, and both are recognized and connect automatically. I also use my laptop to give sales presentations at clients homes, so sleep is sort of necessary. Should I look to lenovo for help on not having to reset my wi-fi adapter?

Whatever, you obviously don't want to take my advise.

Most newer laptops come with something called instant on....with Samsung it's called "Samsung Fast Start", which I have on my laptop of 2 yrs (RV511). This allows you to simply close the lid while having programs open and running, then opening the lid sometime later, will reactive the desktop in 3 seconds to working condition. I love it and it works flawlessly.

Check with Lenovo for your specific make a model and bit specific in the software downloads for something like that. With out your exact make/model laptop I can't look for anything.

I agree with TechnoMage on sleep/hibernate modes...they're problematic.
