Default Security on an External USB Western Digital My Book Hard Drive

I have a Werern Digital 1 TB USB hard drive; which I created using windows Vista Home.

I have receintly Installed windows 8 CP on a internal Hard Drive on my laptop.
I would like to access the files from both operating system.
I have make the Vista Administrators group the owner of the Drive and given it Full Control
Using the Windows 8 OS; I have given everyone the rights to Modify, Read & Execute, list contents, Read, and Write.
However, I can't execute any of the files. The message says Access Denied.

How can I make the USB drive accessable from both OS's?

I would first check to see if you can see the drive when connected in Windows Explorer (Win + E) and/or Disk Manager (Win + X), Disk Management.

Next I might check in Device Manager (Control Panel, Device Manager) Delete the USB controllers and let WIn 8 CP reinstall them upon reboot. Perhaps the USB controller is installed incorrectly. (You might try a different USB port as well).

Beyond that perhaps someone else has some other ideas.

I don't know which WD drive it is. If it's one that used the SES driver delete that unplug the drive and plug back in and let reinstall the SES driver.

That's true, RBL. When you first plugged it in did it actually show it was installing device hardware at all?
