Default Window 8 uninstalled my graphics card

    Hi everyone,

I am first time here and I was invited to visit this website by my friend. My friend told me there are some windows 8 expert here and always can provide help. Now I am having a problem and hope you can provide any suggstion to me. Thanks in advance!

I have just installed windows 8, but my graphics card is missing. I guess Window 8 uninstalled my graphics card. I tried to reinstalled it, but windows does not allow to reinstall it. It had the driver working before an update.

    Its a ATI Radeon X1650.

    Thanks again!

You may try the driver for Windows 7 and see if that works

Just grab the latest driver from the ATI website & install it. Will probably fix your problem.

    Cheers,

    Upgrade to Win-8?

There is NO Such thing as a "Windows 8 upgrade". When you install Win-8 over another OS it wipes it out, drivers, OS and all, and takes over. Of course the previous drivers are wiped out in the process and the Win-8 installer installs it's own Generic drivers for everything.

Some companies like "NVidea GeForce" have already written Windows 8 compatible drivers for some of its later (Newer) video cards.
I found Win-8 drivers for my own Nvidea GeForce video card by going to the "GeForce.com" web site.

Other manufacturers may not be as up to date on drivers as Nvidea.
If you have an Off The Wall video card, or highly proprietary, like some Laptop drivers, you may be 100% out of luck, for Win-8.

    Good Luck,

There are still so many people that seem to think MS is offering this new free OS for everyone. Boy are they in for a surprise when Win 8 CP deactivates and they loose everything.

If you are one of those people you better plan for that day now. This is a TIME LIMITED beta OS MS has released to allow consumers to test and provide feedback prior to the release of the official Win 8 in October. In early June the next beta, Win 8 RP, is due to be released and will require a clean install.

If you install Win 8 CP over your released OS, you are now in deep Do Do as the saying goes. (For those of you not knowing American colloquialisms you are in serious trouble) You had better start planning on what you are going to do next very quickly. The OS you have "upgraded" to is going to die at some point in time and you are going to loose everything.

You might want to start now to reinstall your original OS and all your apps. You might want to start now to back up your data because if you do not you will loose it all. If you have all those great games installed, you better plan on how you are going to get them back because you are going to loose them all! This is going to happen!

PLAN ON SOMETHING BAD HAPPENING LATER THIS YEAR BECAUSE IT IS GOING TO. THIS IS A TIME LIMITED BETA OS!

No Beta OS should ever be installed, except as, follows:

    1. On a spare machine
    2. Virtually
    3. As a dual-boot.
    4. Run from a USB stick

Never as an Upgrade or replacement to an existing, current, non-beta OS. Never on a production machine.
Nor, BTW, can one move from 1 Beta of an OS to the next or from Beta to RTM, etc... from Build to Build or stage to stage, except by clean installs.

Programs & software must be installed, after a fresh OS install.

    Cheers,
    Drew

Cool Re: Window 8 uninstalled my graphics card

In preparation of the next Beta, I'm already making a list of everything I have installed on the current BETA version. Likewise, the desktop shortcuts I've created, like to Control Panel, System Restore, System, Wordpad, Notepad, etc. I have the shortcuts all stored away on a Flash Drive so I can restore them on the next BETA version of Win-8 when it comes out.

It should take me no time at all, to set up the next version exactly the way I want it.
I have NO Data Files or Email on my BETA test version. Those are all on a separate hard drive, on my permanent OS.

    Cheers Mates!

The original question has been answered in post 2 and 3. Since the OP has not come back to update his post, I assume his problem is solved.
