Default Why I dont receive updates through Nvidia CP?

    Hey!
Ive come home after about 3 months hiatus. Ofc my driver stayed outdated (320.18) but now Nvidia CP says that no drivers are available. I cant check for updates either saying"unable to connect to Nvidia". I dint installed that Nvidia experience thing so I need to ask if that is mandatory now if to receive automatically updates ?
Where can I download the latest driver manually also ?

If no vid drivers show under Windows Updates...

    > Device Mgr, Rt Clk on the vid adapter & hit Update Driver, select Search everywhere or whatever it says, (the recommend) choice, hit OK

Or you can always go fetch any Update from Nvidia's web site.

    Cheers,

I don't have/use an Nvidia GPU, but if it's like AMD's CCC, it doesn't auto update either. You have to manually check for updates...and for that I don't use the CCC, I go straight to AMD's website for that.

Nope its/was not like AMD. When you instal the driver you install that Nvidia Update utility also. When a new update is available is/was notifying you and ask you to download it.

So the update utility might be corrupted....can you uninstall the utility and re-install it?

dont think so, it comes with the driver. At the moment I installed the latest driver and is to be seen if it will be notifying when new driver is available.

I'm sitting here, reading this whole thread and one word keeps coming to my mind.....WHY?

If your NVIDEA driver worked last month, last week or even yesterday, WHY do you think you need an update today?

I bought a new NVIDEA video card over a year ago and I installed the driver that came with it, and I've never had any reason to get any driver updates. I did download the Windows 8 driver when I first got the card, but that's it.
I see no reason at all to update that driver again. My video works just fine!

There are too many other things to worry about in this messed up world, without worrying about video drivers updates.
    Eh?

    Still wondering ...... WHY?

A man with experience is never at the mercy of a man with an argument.
    Backup! Backup! Backup! Ghost rocks!

    'TM',

You wonder why... I'll suggest one reason, well actually, maybe 2 which walk hand in hand...

End User ignorance & good (or bad depending how one cares to look @ it) advertising/propaganda.

To explain. End Users who don't know any better or different tend to think things they read or see are something they should do, believe, buy into or be suckered into.

Ergo, whilst they are on some web site or home page and there is some crap telling them their machine must be given such & such attention, that it is screwed up, not performing well or as well as it should, that it must be full of infections, that they must clean this or scan that and that they must update a plethora of drivers... it the name of doing what must be best & needed, even required... they go, "Oh, ok, guess I must.

I could name the ads & product names but, I'm sure you know the kind of stuff meant here.

There is so much rubbish disseminated & propagated to poor, innocent, End Users one can almost feel pity. Instead of having someone knowledgeable or conscientious as you or I put some real thought & effort into their issue or query, they run into someone or some ad saying a cop-out, knee-jerk, 'Check/Scan/Update Drivers'. Often they are initially very badly set off on a very sad road by some sales-clerk @ a big-box store feeding them all sorts of notions or omitting actual, good-to-know info or educating them w/ any "Best Practices" & selling them stuff they did not even need to purchase.

So "why?"... cus someone or something told them so or lead them to believe it. And they reckon those kids in the stores or those ads must be resources that know more than they do & must be right... so they trust & go blindly forward.

At least, there are Folks, like us in forums, who give up & volunteer their time & expertise to try to counteract all this and offer realistic & valuable help, guidance, advice & answers to people seeking to learn & improve their End User experience.

To sum up, here are 2 tips for End Users & people buying computers:

    1. Go to independent Consultants/Techs NOT, big-box retail outlets!

    2. Don't run w/ what an ad or sales-clerk says w/out checking w/ an independent Consultant/Tech such as myself, 'TM' or others FIRST!

    3. Just because some pre-loaded, off-the-shelf OME comes bundled w/ something from some other vendor, w/ whom they are in cahoots and are 'pushing' it, it may well NOT be the wise thing to just grab it! Ask an independent Consultant/Tech such as myself & others FIRST!

That's why we exist & are here... to try & make up for "Why?".

    Cheers,
    Drew
