Red Screen of Death (RSoD)
Hey all,
I have recently built my own PC, and installed Windows 8. Everything runs fine until I begin to play Battlefield 3; randomly during gameplay, my system slows and then red screens at which point I just shut my system off. I imagine this is just a driver issue, but does anyone have any suggestions?
My system specs are as follows:
Intel 3770k CPU
DZ77GAL70K motherboard
MSI R7950 GPU
16GB Corsair vengeance low profile RAM
120GB Corsair force GT SSD
Corsair TX750w PSU
NZXT H2 case
Thanks!

I see there's no mention of a GPU, what GPU are you using? Do you have all the latest MS updates? Do you have all your mobo drivers up to date?
Re: Red Screen of Death (RSoD)
When I listed my system specs, I also listed my GPU. It is a MSI R7950 Twin Frozr. Essentially it is an AMD 7950. My motherboard drivers are all up to date; Intel just released new drivers for my motherboard, but that did not remedy the problem.
Re: Red Screen of Death (RSoD)
Sorry about that...I did miss the GPU. Did you install the latest driver for the AMD GPU...the latest is version 13.10. Another possibility is the Htz setting of the monitor itself aka refresh rate.
Re: Red Screen of Death (RSoD)
I did install catalyst 13.10 already but I plan on doing a reinstall. My screen is 60 hz so I think it is fine. I have my PC connected to the screen with an hdmi cable (just a heads up).
Re: Red Screen of Death (RSoD)
Since you mentioned the HDMI cable, I've seen this my self although not computer related, it was with my DVD player connected to my daughters HD TV using the component cables. It had the red screen as well. I unplugged each video connector one at a time until I found it, it was the red plug. I left it unplugged and the TV has been working fine ever since. So I thought it was either the cable or a setting on the TV itself.
You can test this theory by getting a different HDMI cable or try using a single link or dual link DVI cable. A DVI cable is 1080p only with out sound being carried through it.
Re: Red Screen of Death (RSoD)
I'm beginning to doubt that the hdmi cable is the root of my issue because for every red screen, my computer leaves a minidump file. I doubt my computer would crash if the hdmi cable or screen was defective.
