Thanks, Cat. It's through MSDN, I work from my home office extensively and use multiple machines so wanted to try with this one before finishing my mega pc rebuild (stoopid CPU fans should have been here, curse you Sandy!!). So the mb would stay the same, with a fresh OS install, I wasn't sure if the license/activation was good reusing the key on a clean install, it's already been activated once, yet it *was* on this hardware. I did try SlimDrives, it just congratulated me that all my drivers are current. :-)

I had similar problems with GMA 500 adapter but was able to install the windows 7 driver. If you want to "go back" to the default Win8 basic display, use the control panel to uninstall the driver. Updating the GMA 500 driver works, but there is a performance hit do to IRQ sharing - which I've been unable to resolve.

Thanks, MisterEd. I wasn't able to uninstall, it already showed that the driver was the 'default'. The log showed that when I attempted (and failed) to install the nVidia driver some aspect was installed - not the whole driver - and I was unable to locate or remove that from the system. I just ended up deactivating Win8 this weekend, installed Win7x64 and let it do all updates. That found a suitable go 7600 driver after I was unable to use nVidia's, HPs or Microsoft's driver manually. This weekend I'll make a ghost of it then try an upgrade to Win8. If that works I'll reactivate it with MS, otherwise I'll just keep it Win7. Much appreciated on the response.

    Hi,

As end of januar in nearing and the Win8Pro promo at EUR 30 is near to its end, I've downloaded it and tried to install it on an old HP Pavilion 'testlab' laptop, just to get used to Win8. My 'production' laptop is still on Win7 and remains like tht until I'm sure that Win8 can do all the things I want it to do.

And gues what, I've the same problem as discussed in this thread: totally unreadable display.

I see your latest posts are from november last year. Did someone now already find an answer to this issue (the weel does not need to be re-invented).

    Greetings and Thanks,
    CeeGee.

Hi CeeGee, I haven't revisited Win8 on that since, it works fine as a Windows 7 system. I tried everything I could think of, after I gave up there was something mentioned about two different ports (internally?) on my all-in-one and selecting the correct one, again I didn't go back to try. It could even be as basic as HP using a different monitor/screen component within the same model run, that would explain why some people got it to work with restricted resolution selection and some like me did not at all.
