Default XP mode in Windows 8?

    Hi guys,

I just upgraded to windows 8 64 bit about 3-4 weeks ago and i am loving its sleek and quick operation so much. Of course I've upgraded all the drivers to the newest and downloaded those latest software for windows 8. But now I am planning to install XP 32 bit on it.

Is it possible to do that?

hope you can help in this win 8 case. many thanks in advance.

Of course, you can install dual operating system on it. But you should not install both of them in the same disc. If you do not make sure you can manage it, pls ask someone good at computer to help you to do that!

    Hallo,

the XP-Mode isn't currently working in Windows 8. You can start the Installation as an
Admin in the Windows 7 Compatiblitymode, but the Insteller will allways detect another
Windows and will display an Errorrequester. I have tried it in Build 8102 (64-Bit Edition).

Try using Vista's Virtual PC 2007. It isn't XP mode, but it does provide a way to run XP on Vista and 7, should work on 8 as well.

I believe you would be happier with a dual boot scenario. This way you will be able to access the whole of the system resources with each OS, not have to share resources between the host and the client. This would involve partitioning the HD to accommodate the second OS.

In the past it was always advised to install the older OS first, then the newer. I do not know if this is still the case. I suspect so because of the MBR. You could make an Image of Win 8 CP I suppose and restore the Image to the second partition after installing XP. You might have to use EasyBCD to fix the MBR after doing so. Or just reinstall Win 8 CP after installing XP. You could probably finish the whole thing in a day and have 2 pristine OS's.

What happened with all of the new VM software that was supposed to be included with Windows 8? There's a Virtual Drive shortcut on the Metro tiles.

XP Mode won't run on that? I haven't had the time to try it out yet, was hoping that someone had by now & reported back on it.

Cat, The original post is old, so it's not the cp release.

I see now. There were a couple of recent responses that drew my attention.

No, this will not work. Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 is programmed for the Windows 7 and Windows
Vista Systems. So the Code must be modified to work on Microsoft Windows 8 and Microsoft
Windows Server 8. This will be done when Microsoft Windows 8 and Microsoft Windows Server 8
have been finished. So you have to use Virtual Box for the Emulation. I hop the new Microsoft
Virtual PC 201x will come soon so I can use the simeless Mode in Windows 8. Then the XP-Mode will work again. There will be a
Windows 7-Mode, too. I don't know if you will can use both Modes
staked. It means that the XP-Mode runs in the Windows 7-Mode.
So Programs for older Windows will run in the Windows 7-Mode.
Otherways you will have to run both Modes simultanly in Windows 8
    to run all Programs.
