64BIT? 20G disk space? etc. etc.

Can someone give me a list about Windows 8 system requirements?

    hi,

Windows 8 system requirements are much higher than that of Win 7. 64 bit is one of its requirements. Anyhow, to make it clear, please see on microsoft web.

For anyone wanting to know just what Windows 8's system requirements are, look here.

Microsoft Posts Detailed System Requirements for Windows 8

And contrary to many rumors & postings, there is going to be a 32 bit Windows 8. If there weren't, there wouldn't be a 32 bit Windows 8 CP & the upcoming June release of Windows 8 RP.

Hope that my post makes this issue more clear to everyone.

The original posts are very old, and the newer posts were from a spammer who is now banned. Thanks for posting the system requirements Cat.

I've already installed and run Win-8 on PC's that would not even install Win-7. So the best way to know if a PC will run Win-8, is........TRY IT! That's why they call this TESTING. So far, nothing is carved in stone. Win-8 is blowing pre-concieved notions right out the window.
Why even waste time and forum space asking about it....just do it and see what happens.

I even installed Win-8/32 on a seven year old Compaq desktop, with only 512 megs of ram and a 40 gig hard drive. It worked just fine, all be it a bit slow. On-board video, sound and lan all worked with the default drivers from MS. Go figure!

TM, you've noticed the same thing as I have. Windows 8 CP runs on hardware that Windows 7 & Vista drags down, sometimes very heavily. Usually low-spec computers. But it wouldn't install on my T42 ThinkPad, as it has the ATI Radeon 7500 GPU, with only 32MB of VRAM. That's not enough. One needs 64MB of VRAM to install Windows 8. Plus, there's no chipset for Vista/Windows 7 for it, so there's loss of function there also.

My desktop is designed to run Windows 7 x64, but it's components perform far more better running Windows 8 CP than it's OEM installed OS. I was fortunate to know how to upgrade the RAM to improve performance, it made a big difference. Being that it's a AIO PC, not much that I can do with any serious upgrading.

My plan is to move forward to Windows 8 by clean install, while keeping the OEM install on a separate HDD. By the time the next version of Windows is released, I'll have the cash saved for the PC that I really want. A powerhouse media center PC, TV tuner & all, with no shortcomings with the CPU & RAM.

[Let's not be posting blatant UN-Truths, on this or any other forum. Eh?]

I'm just sitting here, scratching my head and wondering, "Where on earth, or anywhere else, did that notion come from?"

On the MS download site, there are TWO distinct versions of Win-8/CP. The 32 bit version and the 64 bit version and the same Registration Key which is also printed right under the versions Download Buttons, is the same for both versions. I have downloaded them both, installed them both, on separate hard drives and have run them both.
I even installed the 32 bit version on a seven year old Compaq desktop and on a four year old D'hell laptop.
It runs fine on both PC's. (No problemo!)

For whatever it's worth, , , I prefer the 32 bit version because it does one thing that the 64 bit version cannot..... it will run old 16 bit software.
That will be great for people depending on 16 bit software compatibility.

    Cheers Mates!

The 32 bit version of Windows 8 (probably beginning with the RP) may also allow for older printers/other hardware that were designed for XP users to work with the OS. Note that I stated "may" & not "will".

I'm hoping that the final version of Windows 8 will include an XP Mode type app, I know that the included VM software will be far more enhanced than that of earlier versions. It's going to take a lot of features to draw satisfied Windows 7 users to take the leap.

Like threeone's blog linked linked below states, Windows 8 suffers from a "WTF?" problem.

It's time, & soon for MS to come clean & lay all of the cards on the table, or to rephrase this, exactly what all of the benefits of moving forward to Windows 8 are.

Also, I ran across this morning, & would like to share. Those who are interested in moving forward needs to read this.

    http://www.winsupersite.com/article/...d-subscription

Note that 2 keys are available for all recent Windows OS's & Office with this subscription. That's thousands of dollars of software for $199. The membership is year by year, renewals are $149. But the OS's & Office COA's that you get, is good as long as you're compliant with the terms (no for profit use, no sharing keys/install ISO's). I have installs from over 2 years ago still in use. This software & keys are all legit, directly from MS.

The original post from windows and then smile was very old, prior to Win 8 DP. I suspect he might have been guessing, who knows. That's one of the problems when these spammers start dragging up these old posts with nonsense posts. I believe this was one of those threads where I deleted posts and banned spammers. This might be one of the reasons why the thread seems somewhat disjointed.

I agree with you, Ted. I've posted the Windows 8 System Requirements, & they're in other places on the forum, & I have no doubt that they'll be re-posted again.

No need to continue on with this one.
