after installed windows 8 i encountered a weirder thing for my pc could not recognize printer, scanner, and fax machine any more. of course, they all can be recognized in windows 7 and Xp.
Windows found a printer device but not the driver, so i have to those needed drivers but they still did not work.

i've never experienced this in win 7 so i think its the problem of win 8 beta 64 bit. does anyone can come up with some help in this? many thanks in advance.

Because Windows 8 just came out, no proper drivers for your printer, scanner and fax machine in Windows 8 at present. So I strongly recommend you to use dual systems, the default one is Windows 7 and the second one is Windows 8.

Until one day, all kinds of drivers match with Windows 8 64 bit and 128 bit system, then you can use a single system, like Windows 8 64 bit.

Make sure you have installed the latest drivers for your windows 8.

Try to install manually a printer close to the model you have. Add printer manually and select the one is very similar to the one you have. I select SCX-4300 series (Samsung) and it works for my SCX-4200 series. But SCX-4200 series PCL6 didn't work. Go to control panel, view devices and printers, add a printer, stop (when searching is running), next, check " add a local printer or ...", next, select the port (mine was USB), select a model (close to yours) and follow the rest of instruction. if it does not work, pick another one. I hope it works for you.

Sunketrry. What make of printer are you using?. I am surprised at your post. I have been using printers - inkjet laser multi etc from five years old to new, and have not yet encountered a driver problem??

fwiw. The Beta testing and pre-releases to hardware manufacturers, were available to those concerns more than a year ago. One of the specific reasons for this was to enable them to build drivers for hardware. Unlike their experience with Vista, many (there are exceptions, unfortunately) , have worked hard on this. There are still random items, usually of a special nature, which still have compatibility problems. It is possible that you have such a device and the only solution may be to upgrade.

The immediate question is why, @ this point in time, do I see a mention of "win 8 beta 64 bit" in your OP??

We are well past the betas, CP & RP, of Windows 8. The GA was released 26/10/12.

now, I may be repeating what others have, already, said in this thread follow your OP & some will not be repeating...

The compatibly list and potential w/ Windows 8 is huge. Most peripheral hardware, devices it will find & install the drivers & software all by itself. Most everything & anything that worked on 7 will work on 8. Some things one may need to go to a manufacture's web site & fetch such things & install them but, only very few.

I'll not say too much more w/out having specifics. After working w/ Win8 for about a year I have not run into anything very memorable w/ which there was difficulties or snags when it came to installing... software nor hardware. Very much doubt it's just my good luck... I don't usually have much of that.
