Default Windows 8 Consumer Preview - Printer Issue

    Hi everyone,

I'm having a heck of a time getting one of my printers working in the Win 8 Consumer Preview. I have a Canon ImageClass 4350d LaserMulti-function printer. It was working fine prior to the W8 install.

After the install, I just get an error message everytime I try to print.

The computer SEES my printer, I can access properties and preferences, it says "Ready"

I tried completely removing it, uninstalling all software and drivers and re-installing everything and it "looks" like it installs fine and shows up in my printers but still will not print.

The weird part is that any documents in the print queue WILL print on a re-start. So whenever I restart the computer, the printer prints automatically. This tells me the printer IS being recognized but whenever I try to print from anywhere (including the "Print Test Page" under properties, I get the same error message.

This is a local printer directly connected to my computer via USB.

All my other printers (which are network printers) still work fine.

    Any help is appreciated.

Search for the latest driver of your printer, see if that can solve the problem. If not, I have to say that you are quite unlucky.

Remember this is the beta version of Windows 8. No matter how it is called, Windows 8 Consumer Preview, it is a beta version.

If you installed this system in your real PC, then you may suffer the following possibilities:

1, the graphic card driver doesn't work, you won't get a proper resolution of your screen.
2, the printer driver doesn't work, you can not use your printer.
3, all your files in your drive will get lost. That will be a disaster.

In order to check whether it is caused by your printer, you 'd better connect the printer to another computer to have a try.

If not caused by printer, how about exchange a connecting line?
    Or
Please enable the service of the printer in the Computer and reboot your computer.

Yes, it is my real PC that I installed it on. I havent encountered any other issues with any other hardware or programs and, believe me, with the printer issue, I went through and checked the programs. If anything, some of the programs actually seem to run better. I didn't back up my computer so if it goes, then it goes. Not much i can do at this point. I doubt it will though.

HongMay, I'll hook the printer up to my laptop and see what happens. Like I said, I have two printers on my network and can print to them fine. It "may" just be that the printer is old and is having issues with Windows 8. The latest driver they had on the support site was from 2010.

One of my network printers is literally a week old. The other is older but still works.

I guess it is the problem of Windows 8, the printer driver doesn't support Windows 8. it's a pity. now that you have several computers(including laptop), and if you want to keep your Windows 8, then you have to connect that printer to another computer without Windows 8.

And I think all drivers will be updated within 3 months after Windows 8 Consumer Preview released.

I kind of figured either an updated printer driver would come out or a patch would be released as updates are applied to the consumer preview version. I know it works so Im just using my other printer as my default for now. The other one can have a rest until Windows 8 is officially released then I'll attempt again. You never know what Windows Update will bring around either.

I know when Windows 8 officially release date. At 1st Aug, Microsoft will send the official version to PC manufacturers to OEM Windows 8 for them. And Windows 8 officially release date will be between Sep - Oct this year.

I guess I have a wait ahead of me then. Printers aren't expensive. If I need to buy another laser printer, I will. This one has earned the money I spent on it.
